Perhaps but the technological advances weren't unrelated to the war I think. The kind of total war that we saw during WWII tends to lead to big advances in military tech some of which eventually filters into the civilian economy.

I also think the fact that the other industrial powers were left in shambles from the war helped, allowing us to dominate global manufacturing. But sure those three factors on their own are a potent stimulus to any economy, war or no war.

Possibly on the first point (that the defense buildup could have led to some technological advancement, though there are better ways to do that). Trading partners being hurt could help us competitively, but it would be a drag on our economy in an absolute sense compared to them being in good shape (and at any rate, it was a small contributer to our economy).

I never got the idea that Democatic's are calling for full out socialism. Fact I wish Bernie did not call it Democratic socialism. He wants to tear up the for profit healthcare model and expand Medicaid for all and go after drug prices. There is really no need for Americans to pay up to 5 to 10 times higher prices for needed drugs.

I need penicillin. My life depends on it. It’s an old medicine and not covered by patents. It’s cheap to manufacture.

Penicillin is $6 - $10 a shot in Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Turkey, etc etc. It is made by Sandoz and is cheap the world over.

Except in the US !! Here Pfizer has a monopoly and it is $335.00 a shot. It costs me ~ $4,000.00 a month to fill my prescription. That would cost about $100 in any other country.

One flaw with these plans for expanding coverage is that they don’t eliminate the gouging that only Americans are subject to.

Bill apparently doing it again with Bernie Sanders he's willing to blow up the Democratic party if he does not get his way in order to make sure Bernie or even Warren don't get it because you know they support giving more people healthcare and schooling what a crazy socialist idea vs you know adding another 93 billion to the defense budget. Because we don't spend even even enough on defense and giving out massive tax breaks to the richest .00001 percent of Americans. I was wondering about Warren but the way the neoliberals like Bill and heck the former Republican "LOL" Scarborough attack her and Sanders make me wonder if they are not creating these stories about her secret meetings to make progressives turn on her and I still want Bernie but talk about rigged.
