Biden Covid advisor says U.S. lockdown of 4 to 6 weeks could control pandemic and revive economy

Good point.

Just found out today that my dad has it. He's 77 and in an assisted living facility. Not in great health, smoker for most of his adult life. He's had symptoms since end of last week. So far, he says it's like a really bad cold and he also has no sense of smell or taste. But his breathing is fine...so far.

Gotta admit...I'm preparing that he isn't gonna survive it. I hope I'm wrong, and so far I definitely am. But I know it can turn bad quickly. We'll see. It's tough too because I haven't been able to see him in months, no visitor policy has been in place. If he dies and I haven't seen him since July that's gonna be really rough.
Hope all goes well for your father Sherbro.

You can’t expect over 300 million people to self isolate.
If everyone self isolated for 14-21 days this thing is over.
Just not gonna happen though. Too much ego and freedom.

How exactly is it "ego and freedom"? If you closed the US down entirely (i.e. no "essential workers" such as emergency services or doctors), the death toll would be millions or more. Everyone can't self-isolate, we have to have essential services, and then you rapidly realize just how interconnected the economy. You might so "ok, only doctors can work", but doctors need support staff and supplies. Those supplies come from warehouses full of warehouse workers, and are delivered by truck drivers. Those trucks need to be maintained by mechanics, who need replacement supplies from the hardware supply chains. The drugs they make are manufactured and tested in labs all over the US. Those labs have their own supply chain needs. It just keeps going until you need 100,000,000 people working, to support the original 1,000,000 you called essential.

People die from the flu too you know. According to WHO it's 3 times more deadly than the flu but that's debatable since so many people dying from other illnesses are being marked down as a covid death. Permanent lung or heart scarring will be in a tiny minority of people who get covid. Over 80% of people don't even get symptoms and when they do they are in the vast majority of cases very minor flu like symptoms. The danger of covid has certainly been exaggerated for political means. But we should still protect those vulnerable by recommending they self isolate as much as they can while society carries on before causing major recessions that could cause more deaths.

I get it. It definitely seems overblown.
Just don’t want the boy to get those lung or heart disease things later in life.

Which would probably do more harm than good. Biden is not even the President-elect and he's already doing a shitty job.

Masks and six feet distancing in public you fuckin retards.

Open your eyes and stop talking.

All talk, all video games. Go watch somebody stream and leave real decisions to the adults.

Cope cope cope cope.

My life is better than yours, I earn more, I own more, and I enjoy my free time more.

Whats up with all the negative comments? We just need to do this to flatten the curve.

They rigged an election only after hysterically challenging the previous one for four years. Now they want to defund the police, open the borders and lockdown the nation.

Are they socialists, dictators or just the incompetent swamp 64M non brainwashed Americans already realized?

I don't disagree. For almost all of those jobs, masks and keeping distance is possible for the most part. Not in every single case, but most.

I think shutting everything down is just unrealistic. What's not unrealistic (or, I guess it has proven to be so, though it shouldn't be) is a bunch of fucking idiots jamming into a bar or house party like they are doing EVERY WEEKEND here in my state. Which is now the epicenter of the world when it comes to Covid. Can it spread in a garage where two mechanics that are wearing masks are working on trucks to support the essential trucking industry? Absolutely. Is it likely? Probably not. But let's say one guy does have it and gives it to the other. If the other guy goes home, he likely infects his family, which sucks. But if they aren't being stupid, there's a solid chance it stops there. How about if the guy stops at the bar on the way home for some drinks with 75 other people who have the same "Fuck the fake virus and fuck your masks" attitude? Which scenario is likely to lead to the local ICU not having any available beds for when someone's kid needs an emergency appendectomy?

I know this, because I'm seeing it happen in my state and community literally as I type this. Our ICU's are full in some spots. My state has half the population of NYC, and our daily case counts are higher than NYC's at their PEAK. And I know the reason for the most part is because people just don't care and want to live life as normal. I don't want businesses closed. That same bar that all those idiots go jam themselves into daily has awesome food. We carry out from there and they do curbside service where they put the food in the back of your car, and you can even order booze to go! You want to patronize them and keep them afloat, for sure! So do I! But people just can't get past their selfishness and refuse to make temporary adjustments until we have a viable vaccine and this thing is under control. So now with our local hospitals full of freaking Covid cases, I have to sit here and hope my kid doesn't have some random thing where we'd need to take her.

Alright, end rant here. I don't want to shut down the country. I just want some common fucking sense.
