Betting Questions

i have had good experience with betdsi and 5dimes. both fedex'd cheques to my door.

Thanks.

Another question.....if you want to bet on McDonald winning a fight, can you parlay him winning by decision as well?

So McDonald at +108 and by decision +256 = +640.

Or Jones at -600 and winning ITD -260 = -162

No, cause then people would always do that. Why would you ever just bet Jones By Sub and not Jones by sub + Jones ITD + Jones ML + Fight does not go the distance ?

Yeah they were pretty dumb questions which were basically the same as each other, but was making sure since I'm just starting to get into betting, trying some things out before actually making a real bet.

Thanks for answering.

No worries mate! My best tip is to start really low, a dollar here a dollar there just to get a feel for betting and finding value. To many people start off putting everything one the line and then lose it all at the first events.

no dumb questions, man. judgment-free zone. i'll smack anyone who breaks that rule in this thread.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before (I could google it but I value your guys' explanations more) but what is the no scorecards wager all about?

To grab a relevant example, I see ML overeem at 1.444 and NSC overeem at 1.465. So if it goes to dec and Reem wins I'd cash on the ML and push on the NSC. When would you want the NSC? I see EZ and others use it often.

basically, if you think one guy has a higher chance than the other guy to get the finish, if it's the same price as the ML, the NSC bet is better (even tho it pushes if that guy wins)

in other words, If you want to bet on Fighter A against fighter B, but you think fighter B wins via decision most of the time that fighter B wins... then if the fighter A ML is the same price as the fighter A NSC, it's the better option.

sometimes it's priced appropriately (where one guy is super unlikely to get a finish, thus his opponent is -500 on NSC but only -200 on ML) - but sometimes it's the same price.

i.e. namajunas is never (rarely) getting finished by tecia torres. DJ is never (rarely) getting finished by cejudo. But decisions for torres or cejudo are feasible.. you're better off playing the NSC line for namajunas or johnson if it's not a lot steeper

Ah ha, so it prevents a Dominic Steele-type situation (assuming ml vs nsc for him were the same) where the judging buggers up your bet. Interesting. Thanks very much.

not really...

the likely guy to get a finish in that fight was for sure roberts.. steele more likely win via decision than stoppage.. so if you took roberts no scorecards it would've backfired (you would've gotten a voided bet instead of a win on roberts ML) but it made sense going into the fight

but that doesn't mean it would've been a bad idea.

i think we can all agree that steele +300 was the better play than roberts -350 or whatever.

OK, your Nama and MM examples are better. Thanks very much for the info.

Another one for you guys, if you don't mind:

Parlays versus Laundry List

In your opinion(s) what is the better, smarter method? 2-3+ leg parlays or the long list of bets that guys like EZ and Jim make?

I used to put anywhere from $80-$120 on one or two 2-3 leg parlays (sometimes I'd do 4 or 5 legs if I was very confident). The risk was much higher, obviously, but so too was the return. My best ever was a 4 leg mighty mouse-based parlay where $150 won me $333 profit. I would lose, no doubt, but I hit frequently enough to make it worth it and the time I needed to dedicate to research was low-to-moderate, I'd say. Having been stuck on Bodog before I could only ever do ML parlays but with 5D my options are drastically higher...

However, the last few events I've gone the long list method and although I do seem to be on the positive after each event, the return is significantly lower while the time needed to get that list done is way higher than it was with parlays.

I'm just curious what thoughts and experiences you guys have/had on the two methods and, basically, if parlays are a fool's errand and a waste of money...

Outside of Vegas is there a legal way to bet on MMA in the US?
Which states? Which sites if any?
Thanks in advance.

Using the internet to place bets on sports is not illegal in the USA, unless your state has a law against it.

In theory, sportsbooks are legal in Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon. In practice, only Nevada sportsbooks will allow you to place bets on MMA.

Using the telecoms infrastructure of the USA to take sports bets is illegal under the Interstate Wire Act of 1961. What exactly this means in the internet era is still an unresolved question among the federal courts.

BTW, you should ask this question in the designated "Betting Questions" thread.

Thanks for the answer. Very confusing issue. I'll assume it's illegal for me to place a bet from NJ over the internet.

New to betting so i might come off a little naive. I have been following MMA for years and always pick a lot of winners at the event, so i decided as a hobby(yeah this is purely for fun and to add another excitement element to the fights) to play a few lineups in DraftKings. I have done very well there but the biggest problem with DK is even if you pick 5 winners unless you pick the finishes you out of luck. I pick 5 winners a lot but to be honest most of the time i might get 1 or 2 of the picks are finishes and the rest are decisions etc. So because your basically betting against not only the fighter outcome but also the thousands that enter each contest, you really have to be picking the finishes to do well. So thinking seriously about it,lol it makes perfect sense to only have to bet against the outcome and not the other 5 thousands users,lol.....anyway like i said betting is not my forte so i might be posting a lot in here to make sure i have my tools sharpened be for i make the deep cuts. Firstly i have been doing a bit of research and seem to have picked up a few things but one of the things that i'am not 100% sure of is the over/under. For example in this pic if i was to choose the option Andrei Arloski o1 1/2 + 110 does this meen if he goes past the first round and a half the odds are +110?.....so even if he lost the fight but he still went past the first round and a half you still win?...or am i completely off here?

I'm from NJ too and have been wondering what would happen if I get my bankroll to a good amount and withdraw come tax season. Do I report it? Will I get audited? Will these dirty politicians try to take my money?

I know Bovada doesn't even accept deposits from our state's residents cause of the laws.

You def. have to report it over a certain amount.
Would love to be able to bet on sports over the internets legally anyway.

Yeah, pretty stupid we have one of the biggest gambling destinations in the US (Atlantic City) yet we're one of the few states where online gambling is illegal
