best wrestlers (in the world) are gonna get beat in Future UFC/MMA WRESTLING IS NOT BEST MMA BASE

I didn't name any fight in particular but that was yet another example

you're probably used to watching American MMA where knees are highly nerfed

I watch all kinds of MMA but the UFC uses North American rules and you are in the UFC section of Sherdog and are talking about the UFC so what's the point of bringing up other rule sets?

Besides knees on the ground help wrestlers more than anyone else.

Arona isn't a wrestler but of all the BJJ specialists to come to MMA his wrestling was the best.

For years It’s not been the BEST wrestlers , boxers, kick boxers, that have excelled...it’s just been the REALLY GOOD ones that also take to other disciplines

You took one ko and came to some false conclusions

Many champs have wrestling backgrounds but none were THE BEST wrestlers

1/2 correct at good wrestlers are more effective than the best wrestlers

I never mentioned a single example

Funkys KO was a good one though

as he ducked his face down and put his hands out in a push

Thats some kind of panic reaction that comes from years of wrestling and not enough MMA

DC - Wrestler
Jones - Wrestling Base
Usman - Wrestler
Khabib - Wrestling/Sambo
Cejudo - Wrestler

6/8 divisions have a wrestler as the champion. Somehow I think they're gonna be fine.

i'm confused, what do you mean by "actual mma training"?... you don't think fighters like askren and maia train in other disciplines of fighting or training besides wrestling or bjj

Yeah they do

They would be better if they just trained in MMA exclusively

not BJJ + wrestling and MUAY Thai

Robbie Lawler and Jose Aldo are perfect examples.

They are the best anti-wrestlers and wrestlers often lose to them because of their high level stand up fighting skills and immense wrestling defence. Once they stop their take down. They leave the wrestlers standing and knock them out.

Now Israel is jumping into this wave. In the future, wrestling won't be as effective as now.

I don't think so. Pure wrestling, yes, but a highly offensive wrestling style adapted to MMA is most ideal. Fighters like Chael and Arksen are the dying breed, not the norm.

You think Khabib gets caught like that?

How many times has a wrestler eaten the knee and completed a takedown vs how many times did the knee score the ko? Honest question. Probably a valuable stat for threads like this

It's balancing out more with more strikers based fighter being able to deal with wrestlers, but a big portion of the champs will always be wrestlers. Cormier, Usman, Cejudo, Khabib are all strong wrestlers at the core. It's not just the style, but wrestlers are known to be mentality extremely strong due to the training being so hard compared to other disciplines. Say what you want but wrestling training feels much more terrible than kickbox, bjj, boxing training.

Good point but as the sport evolves you will see wrestling take its proper place in the hierarchy

back in the old Dustbin of obsolete sport grappling

MMA will evolve and leave all specialist arts in the dust

Can you back up this claim?

Yeah no problem just hang in there for about five more years

I remember back when everybody was paying $100 /hour to learn Judo groundwork from a Brazilian guy thinking they had the ultimate ticket to MMA success

today it's wrestlers operating under this delusion

one day in the near future they will be relegated to the Dustbin of History just like the BJJ specialists

I guess my point is it’s already been for years that the BEST in these individual sports are not the BEST in mma

Because ONE wrestler lost? Lol

How many current champs are wrestlers?

I never said anything about askren

However that was a great example of wrestlers Panic as he did the worst thing possible besides sticking his chin out and sticking his arms down

He looked down and pushed his arms out forward

Wrestling bestows endurance and cardio. In the end cardio is king in combat sports. I have seen boxers and kickboxers with minimum skill beat skilled opponents because they can spam their move over and over again.

Super human endurance is the best regardless of style.

Lawler has a wrestling base and I think Aldo started BJJ before muay thai.

Askren actually doesn't. Maia has evolved his game, but Askren never has. He doesn't use feints, he doesn't use strikes to set up his TDs. He has no offense (or defense) to speak of while on his feet. That's why he shot for the TD immediately from across the cage - he has to do that against a good striker like Masvidal.

LOL do you really think the sport has evolved to its ultimate form in 2019?

He didn't shoot for a takedown he froze up and panicked like most wrestlers do when a big knee is coming their way
