There have been enough debates on the GOAT. But if you looked at pure MMA striking, who would you pick as the greatest of all time. Also, separately, who has been the best BJJ guy of all time.

This is based on what they've actual done in MMA. So someone like James toney would not qualify, or even Roger gracie. They are great at what they do, but they haven't done enough in MMA against good competition.

Best strikers: Silva, Liddell, Crocop, Fedor, Penn and wand in their primes were also beasts.

Best BJJ: Aoki, Big Nog, Werdum, Maia

Who would you guys pick as the single greatest in each discipline?

Jake Shields.

Dave Herman.

Kidding. Anderson for striking. Werdum for bjj.

That list is pretty much good enough to me. I might replace Big Nog with Jacare though in the near future if he succeeds against the steady competition in UFC now.

Striking: Andy. By far.

BJJ: Big Nog

That is just based on results. I know guys like Werdum are better at pure BJJ than Nog, but Nog has the best resume pertaining to MMA.

Best Striker: Chuck, Fedor, Wand, Cro Cop, and Anderson.
Best BJJ: Werdum.

If we are talking very "pure" strikers I would say: Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva in his Pride prime

In terms of pure BJJ MMA fighters, I would say: Frank Mir, "Minotauro" Nogueira, Werdum and Maia.

Probably the best striker would be Anderson Silva and the best BJJ fighter would be Big Nog in my opinion. Yeah Frank Mir beat him, but a few years after his prime in close battles.

Silva has got to be the best striker. Hands down. And I'd have to put Nog in there as the most accomplished in MMA in terms of grappling. I don't necessarily believe he's the best BJJ practitioner in MMA today but definitely the most accomplished utilizing mostly his grappling technique.

Werdum subbed the GOAT though. For pure MMA BJJ credentials, that one pretty much cannot be topped.

What about prime Rickson, Royce, or Roger Gracie for BJJ? I think these guys would beat Werdum, Big Nog, Maia in a pure BJJ contest.

This is true, but Fedor wasn't really in his prime at the time. I know this is a controversial opinion, but ive seen him fight for a long time and he's never looked as bad on the ground as he did in the last few years. Brett Rogers sweeped him, Hendo escaped from under him easily, BF held him down with ease.

Its a big accomplishment still, but that alone does not put him above Big Nog imo

Striker: Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Cro Cop.

BJJ: Rickson Gracie, Shinya Aoki

Best Wrestler: Georges St-Pierre, Dan Henderson

A BJJ list that doesn't include Arona or Roger Gracie? Seems a bit suspect.

is it a best striker and best bjj guy of all time? or best striker/bjj of all time?

Anderson Silva is the best striker, Frank Mir is best BJJ.
