Best Protective Cup

I currently use a crappy bike proflex cup. It is uncomfortable to fight in. In my search for a new cup, I came up with shock doctor, windy, and fairtex. Leaning towards windy and fairtex b/c i hear the steel is more comfortable. Is there any difference between the two brands? Best place (CONUS) to order from?

I have used the traditional cup, shock doctor, and the nutty buddy. I like the traditional cup best, maybe cause I have worn it all my life. The shock doctor would really move around and ride up if someone was doing a knee in the middle guard opening. The nutty buddy is the best and most comfortable cup I have ever worn, but it is not made for BJJ. It is free floating between compresion shorts and a jock so while doing the same knee in the middle guard opening it can slide right off and to the side, taking your boys with it. Great cup for anything but wrestling though.
 
I use the shock docs and I have no complaints
 
I use a peanut shell and a rubber band. j/k I just got a Bike proflex max cup and supporter and I like it better than the shock doctor stuff.
 
All the above are good - I also recommended the XO Athletic pro cup.

Basically go for any that use the flexi sides, you won't go back.
 
How does one find out which is the best protective cup? Does someone voluntarily stand there and let some dude tee off on his sack?

Well...I think it's based on several factors...

1) How comfortable or noticable is it when you're just walking around...do the edges dig into you...are the edges padded?
2) How comfortable or noticable is it when you're actually training; same criteria as #1. Also, does it shift around a lot? (this is potentially WORSE than not wearing a cup at all if the edge slams into your leg with a testicle caught between)
3) How much does it restrict movement...or does it restrict movement at all

and most importantly

4) If you HAVE gotten caught low while wearing it...DID IT DO ITS JOB? Or did it partially do its job...did the edges slam into you and leave bruises?

That said, I haven't grappled in a while so I can't say the effectiveness for that...but I wear a Thai steel cup in a regular jock strap (those strings they came with freak me out...and are a pain to tie) when I train Muay Thai...hasn't failed me yet...
 
FYI a lot of other folk that you are rolling with will hate the steel cups, myself included. That damn thing hurts like hell if you get back or mount and jam your hips into them. I have a Windy steel cup that I only wear when doing MT. When I'm in BJJ I wear a shock doc.
 
OK. Earlier this week i ordere the Windy Steel Cup from budovideos.com. Excellent customer service btw. Great place to buy from. Cup got here yesterday. Rolled in it last night and tonight. I honestly love this thing. I forgot it was there. No complaints from partners either. I got clipped in the nads while passing guard and barely felt it. This thing is great and i can't wait to tourny test it on sunday. CA pankration championships

Its only a pain when you really drive your hips into them like in mount and you grapevine them to flatten them out. Just be aware of it when traing with partners. For a tourney, hell grind that thing into them. Alls fair in a fight.
 
Is this a good one to use, SPIDER GUARD Web-Flex-Cup with Compression Shorts.
 
Diamond has some great products. I know some of the guys from Team Alpha Male use them and give them high praise. I have an upcoming fight and that's the direction I'm heading.
