i just recently saw that urijah faber is still a brown belt, this shocked me as iv always considered him to have one of the best submission games in the UFC. just wondering who you guys think has the best submission game in the ufc without a blackbelt.

According to his wikipedia page, Jimmy Hettes is only a brown belt in judo and purple belt in BJJ, but has 9 of his 10 career wins come by submission. Pettis and Jones are the obvious choices for best overall, though.

It's 2013 and people are still hung on this belt shit when talking about pros ?!

Odd. I heard he had never taken a single class of BJJ. Only catch wrestling and submission training. That said he's at a level that he could (And I think he has) walked into competition and cleaned up.

If I remember correctly, he was given the black belt so that he could compete as a black in a bjj tournament.

I don't think any reasonable grappler disagrees with him being given an honorary black belt. He is more than good enough.

You would be surprised about people agreeing with Barnett's promotion. I've seen people disagree with a black belt in BJJ due to him not being a jiujiteiro and only having trained catch.

If Barnett is not a BB then the whole rank system is just silly. The guy can grapple, that is all.

He's still a brown because he doesn't train that much in the gi. The belt is a gi construct, you don't need a belt to be a good grappler and being a good grappler doesn't warrant you a belt if you don't train in the gi.

Josh Barnett

Jones ( He is veru skillfull but most of times when he gets his subs hes allready bullied his opponents via strikes and he is much stronger and bigger than his opponents)

Back in days Jeremy Horns

Cain

Pettis was a blue belt as of last week. Jon Jones is a white belt.

That's what I was thinking... Since he does catch I'm pretty sure he isn't a black belt. He's basically the equivalent thought.

He's been a black belt I'm BJJ for years. They even discuss this on the first page
