If you could build the perfect grappling/MMA shorts what features would they have? This could be either from current shorts or just your ideas.

I'll put one feature to start. Stain resistant material. Shorts that wouldn't suck up blood or dirt.

I apologize in advance if you think this thread sucks, but I want to know, so F*** you.

how about a secret compartment to hide your fake urine sample? =P

Sprawls =)

Seriously, I was just at the OTM fight shop today and was talking to another customer and I couldn't help but realize that all the issues that a lot of other shorts have -- material, stretchiness, closure, etc. -- just don't exist in the Sprawls. Sprawls are worth $50. I'm not sure any of the other $50 shorts out there are worth it (you basically pay for a logo).

To break it down:

- open side seams
- stretchy side panels and groin area
- elastic waist band
- internal draw string
- wide, flat hook and loop closure (the small square foldover ones can dig in)
- wide range of sizes, none of this "S, M, L, XL" stuff where you have one size trying to cover 6 inches of waist variance on the assumption that that the drawstring will make up the difference

Okay, one minor thing I'd LOVE to see in some shorts -- a reinforced eyelet system designed to let me snap my Shock Doctor mouthguard case to the shorts

shorts that are stretchable but also water-proof so I can swim in them or sweat in them w/o worrying about them getting messed up.

seriously tho

split seams are preferred...altho i think some skinny leg ppl would dissagree probably

roomy inseam/crotch area for the ppl who own them big shock doctor cups

stretchy waist band for those inbetween sized ppl....or ppl who will be cuttin weight

stretchiness as fozzz said

a slim and efficient velcro system, like sprawls latest non rubber/plastic type

use a drawstring that doesnt get stuck on velcro

discreet logos are preferred (look to some of the warrior wear for what "not" to do to your shorts for one example)

and also, logos should be sewn/stitched instead of them other cheap methods

have lotsa variety of colors

cant think of anything else right now

The biggest thing is comfort, thats the ultimate goal of all those other little wants like strechiness and material, its to make the most comfortable fit possible. I want a short thats fit to fight but feels just as good as shorts you wear relaxing sitting watching TV.

Usually when a brand like sprawl blows up as they have, people start hating and talking shit. I have yet to hear or read anything negative about ANY of Sprawl products.

A compartment to store my SherDex. I like to refer to my SherDex when talking MMA while rolling.

I can only remember one thing and that was the sizing on the MMA hoodie, other than that sprawl is one of if not the best companies out there right now.

Sprawl is no nonsense. I have no issues with flexibility or discomfort or function with Sprawls.

They're durable
They've got the split seam for kicking which definitely makes a difference
Good range of sizing which are adjusted for wearing a cup
Drawstring and velcro - good job there
Pocket for mouthguard
Stretch panels

The only thing that they could really improve on Sprawls is to get rid of the big rubber logo on the waist... oh wait, they already did.

Actually one other thing is they could stand to loose the giant Sprawl logo. Maybe a little more creativity with that empty space and in general with the shorts like they did on the Limited Editions.

I could also say it would be nice to have moisture wicking panels in the shorts but I'm pretty sure that would lead to a lot of short lasting no longer than 2 weeks from tearing.

For me if Inspirit made Spec 2s with an option to have the standard length legs or a slightly shorter length. Really in my opinion, the Spec 2s fit the best of any shorts out there by anyone. They don't have any sort of flex material in them, but the cut of the shorts is pretty much perfect. They also have one of the best closure systems and the elastic waistband is great if you're a bit over or a bit under.

I'd also like to see more color variations though. Blue, Green, some color combinations would also be cool. I prefer the Spec 2s over anything Sprawl has ever done. Sprawl shorts have always felt tight in the hips, even with split seams.

Stretchable so when someone's trying to pull the shorts it won't drag you, and despite being durable not heavy so nothing that'll slow you down

I got a pair of Sprawls and Koral and they are my two fav shorts to wear for training. I got the Shogun Koral and they are way worth the 60 bucks i paid for them, if you like sprawl i suggest Koral also.

I'm with you on this one. I wear my inspirit shorts until they are paper thin and ready to disentegrate. Easily my favorite short.

I have some sprawl shorts and i do love the most of all... but i still dont think they are perfect.

Closest thing out though...

I like the stain idea.... Also think it would be cool if they came with free money in the pocket!

My utlimate shorts would include:

- A decent/secure velcro/tie system
- Some sort of "free range" kicking/guard-work function (either stretch panels or split seams)
- I'm apathetic to elastic waists...but throw it in there b/c a lot of people like it for weight fluctuations
- Some sort of "crotch" feature; either a gusseted crotch or streth panel
- Light-weight and TOUGH material
- Reinforced stitching where it counts
- Low-profile logo...NO blingy crap

best shorts are already out there

SPRAWL! The only thing I don't like about the new split seems are the split is a little too long. They tend to bunch up a little while grappling.

That sounds pretty good but doesn't that mean it wouldn't wick sweat either or maybe a innerlinning would solve this
