Hi, I've never posted on the Condition Discussion forum so bare with me!

Would running/jogging long distances be better for explosiveness in BJJ

Or running 10-15 sprints of 100 yards be better for explosiveness?

Id like to be able to just go balls out rolling long periods of time and improve my explosiveness and stamina for BJJ.

Which type of cardio would be best for explosiveness and stamina in BJJ and how often should I do it? How many times a week?

Oh and Im 17 and I weigh anywhere from 155-160 lbs and I have about 15% body fat, dont know how that factors into this discussion but just wondering..thanks guys

They would both help you, you might want to switch off, one day run the distance then the next day run the sprints, the sprints are good for explosivness, also try swimming aloooot of laps everyday, that works your cardio and your muscles at the same time and will do good for explosivenss

damn 15% are you sure.

Running short sprints can help explosiveness while running long distances and really pushing the pace will help your stamina. If you can only do one, the sprints will help you a lot, but spread the distance of some to 200 or even 400 yards. It'll force you to open your lungs and really push instead of getting comfortable at one distance and pace.

height?, no it really doesn't factor into the program...

the most effective workout for you is to alternate.. sprint for 20 seconds jog for a minute..springt jog and keep it going as long as you can.

HIIT and Tabata are good energy system workouts to help build your BJJ cardio. However, doing BJJ is stil the best and most effecient way to improve your BJJ cardio

Running and Tabata and the like are great for overall conditioning. But for bjj conditioning, nothing is better than doing bjj. a lot of it. Do a ton of timed rounds, sometimes consecutive rounds, but sometimes with breaks in between. You can also mix up the rounds by starting out in different positions where you have to work harder than normal(e.g. the other guy has your leg and is trying to finish a single, or he almost has you in a triangle, or he has your back). You'll soon be able to be explosive throughout your entire match.
