Give me your all-time list of the most dominant UFC fighters from the bottom guard position. Some may refer to them as “power bottoms“.

I don’t think anybody did it better than Werdum and Mir. They were always able to catch their opponents with slick submissions from the guard. Not sure if we’ll ever see heavyweights as skilled as they were.

Some things to consider are:
  • how versatile they are in advancing between different positions.
  • their ability to control the pace and rhythm of the physical contest
  • The ability to finish on command, or perhaps even prolong the contest if desired.
  • Does lubrication make a difference in their performance? What I mean by that is, does wearing a Gi positively or negatively affect their ability or are their skills heightened when they go completely bareback without a Gi.
  • Does stage fright affect their performance or do they choke when they have a big opportunity between their teeth?
  • Do bigger guys or smaller guys have an advantage from the bottom position?

That thread title is already thread of the year shit for me. Is there a poll for that?

I was always surprised how much damage Ben Saunders was able to do from his back. I remember his first fight in the UFC, his opponent took him down all three rounds, but Ben elbowed the shit out of his opponent and won all three rounds off of his back

Honorable Mention: Bas Rutten winning the Heavyweight Championship off of his back

Ben was nasty. I was hoping he would have gone further in his career. I had high hopes for him.

El Cucuy. Even his ghost was giving Chandler problems with the elbows from bottom.

Agreed.

I know Khabib would have beaten prime Tony.

But i still wanted to see this fight just because Tony would have been the most active from the guard than any other fighter Khabib had fought at that point.
