Hey guys, been a member for a little while now and this is my first post, hope everything's done correctly, and thank you for letting me be part of this great community.

I've been lifting for a while now but am afraid that I may be doing something incorrectly. I was wondering which online instructor you find the best, whether that instruction be in the form of a video or pictoral representation.

Thanks very much for your response.

Hey welcome to the forums :)

Instructor-wise I'd look at most anything by Rippetoe or Dave Tate (there are others but for some reason not coming to mind)

Here's some good videos by said coaches

For squat, squat RX. There's 10 of them or so just follow the links on youtube.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. There's just so many "guides" out there, sometimes, and I think especially for beginners like myself, it can hard to tell what's correct and what's not.

Elite FTS "So you think you can..." videos for Squat and Bench, Tates Deadlift video and Ben Rices video on sumo pulling.

Actually I'm not that big a fan of the so you think you can squat videos, but the bench series is amazing.

Anyone have a good one for power clean?

You could just follow the clean progression here and just not go down into a full clean. Clean progression series

Also I'm pretty sure Arlecchino has an article/tutorial on his site sweatpit.com

don't power clean. Do rows instead. power cleans require too much technique and shouldn't be done unless you got a professional watching you.

ask bodybuilding.com.

If you're gonna powerclean, have a good reason why.

1) This is not a bodybuilding forum. No one here cares about the size of your rear delts. The forum is about athletic performance.

2) The clean trains triple extension and lower body power. These are good reasons to do it, and there are many others.

3) Rows are not a direct replacement for cleans, nor vice versa. Depending on your program, you could even do both (imagine that!).

fair enuff.

I note that the post by the guy quoted is 19. It's not impossible, but I would imagine that it's pretty difficult to get the years under the bar, years of coaching, number of high level competitions and knowledge of sports science, physio, etc to become a real authority on lifting by the age of 19.

And his argument isn't that beginners shouldn't do power cleans, just that power cleans aren't a row (which is true) and don't work the upper back that much (which is also true I guess). A lot of people say that SS isn't entirely balanced, but that is another debate.

So you will need to a different example of a respected lifter saying don't power clean.

Oh, and by the way, here's a respected lifter called Jim Wendler (you may have heard of him) telling people to do teach themselves the power clean:

Power Cleans and 5/3/1 - JimWendler.com

Some of his advice probably not that great, but still.
