Considering that Conor McGregor, Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz, and countless of other notable fighters incurred losses before they began facing top 50-100 opponents.

Anytime I hear criticism like "yeah, Khabib is undefeated but he's fought a lot of cans", I think to myself... well then what does that make of Conor, Tony, and Nate if they couldn't stay undefeated with 1/2 as many unranked opponents?

Intriguing thread.

I think your argument falls a little flat now that he is the champion though. I mean.....you should at least beat someone worth a shit before getting a title shot

I wouldn’t call the guys khabib beat cans. They are midcarders/maybe an upper midcarder or two.

I look forawrd tothe future matchups at the top of LW.

Khabib
Ferg
Conor.

Thats really all you need. And the rest of the divison can go along for the ride

Dude look up Julio Cesar Neves. He was 30-0 against nobodies before he got his ass beat in bellator. Mcgregor lost to nobodies but he was also a nobody and had very little experience. Khabib had been training since he was a little kid, wrestling bears and shit lol.

I'm actually making a case that beating 10 unranked opponents can mean as much as beating 1 or 2 top 20 opponents considering that so many notable fighters couldn't stay undefeated against journeymen.

Who is that young brazilian who had a similar record to Khabib against bums (i mean real bums, under 0.500 guys) and signed with bellator? If you glanced his record you thought he was a world beater but truth was far from it

Edit. Lol some one mentioned him before i was finished typing this

It depends on the context. When I hear about some fighter who is 50-0 in small orgs and regional shows, I remember that Travis Fulton and Dan Severn (in his 40s and 50s) did the same thing. But Fulton would almost always lose to recognizable fighters and Severn was done with his serious MMA career by that point. So when someone says "Fighter X is 50-0 and it doesn't matter who he fought, it's still impressive!" I tend to shrug.

When you're starting out everyone is a can. You become a non can by beating cans. Guys at higher level fighting cans proves nothing.

Op is can. If OP beats several other cans he is then not a massive can. He is a smaller can. But when big cans shrink to micro cans they should no longer be fighting big cans.

Also.

Can.

So did Aaron Pico and many others, didn't stop them from losing

Some of the guys they lost to went on to become pros as well. That fact alone pretty much kills your theory.

Conors losses just show you he's got no ground game, that's no shock.
Fergs losses just show you that over the course of a 10 year career fighters can get better.

Getting exposed in MMA is pretty easy if you aren't well rounded and/or come up against someone who is much better at one thing than you are.

Having a 26-0 record is hard but it doesn't really matter and if you're going to have a long unbeaten record then being able to take anyone down and keep them there is probably the way to go.

I say, I say boy...I tell ya what boy, being undefeated against cans is better than being defeated by cans.

In Khabib's 16th fight, he fought a guy who was 0-0. Thats not impressive. If he did that 50 times its not impressive. The next guy Khabib fought, however, was much more experienced and had like 40 fights already

TIL RDA, Barboza, roided Tibau and Michael Johnson are cans....
