Remember that this fight was a win win for him.
If he won, he gets champ champ status and millions of dollars. The fight was also in Australia, on his home turf.
If he lost, ... He's still champion! If it was a close fight or it went the distance, he would get praise as the smaller guy and some people even call for him to hang on to p4p title!
If you're Islam, a loss would be extremely embarrassing. A win, as we see now, doesn't do much, and in fact people won't give you credit for beating the smaller guy. A close win would be even worse in this respect. The fight was thousands of miles away, and Islam's weight cut was adversely impacted by the venue.
So let's give Islam a little credit here. He won despite not being able to do a full recovery after the weight cut and not being able to implement his wrestling game plan fully. That's huge. Beating the best fighter in the world using a Plan B is a testament to his skill. And he didn't have to take this fight, it was all risk and little reward.
