President joe biden` Department Of Justice (DOJ) continued its fight to implement a nationwide mask mandate on airplanes and other forms of transportation in federal court Tuesday, according to Reuters.

The DOJ asked the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse a federal judge’s April 2021 decision striking down the mask mandate, according to Reuters. Biden declared that “the pandemic is over” Sept. 18, 2021, and all 50 states and most localities had dropped their own mask mandates by early 2022.

District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of Florida’s middle district, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, found the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lacked statutory authority to issue the mandate in her April decision.

Only a week earlier, Biden had announced his latest extension of the temporary mask mandate initially implemented in January 2021, extending it into mid-May.

“The Department of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) disagree with the district court’s decision and will appeal,” the DOJ said after the mask mandate was struck down. “The Department continues to believe that the order requiring masking in the transportation corridor is a valid exercise of the authority Congress has given CDC to protect the public health. That is an important authority to preserve.

Reports of unruly airplane passengerssurged during the pandemic, peaking at 6.4 per week in the final weeks of the mask mandate before plummeting to 2.2 per week or fewer for the remainder of 2021, according to Federal Aviation Administration data.

Covid is dead masks on planes and other forms of transportation is fkn stupid.

It's kind of bizarre now this procedure. So wear a mask, and then once you can eat, masks off, for a good hour or even two, then you must wear mask again. Where is the sense in all this? I have just got got from SA and some airlines still have this requirement.

It's kind of bizarre masks weren't required prior to covid on mass transit. None of this is new. We knew how transmissible virus and other pathogens spread for a long time.

Covid isn't dead. It's still here and still spreading, and new nasty variants still emerging. China is currently crippled by a new wave.

Masking on international flights seems like a no brainer if you have a brain.

Of course Covid isn't dead, and it's still spreading... same is true of the spanish flu. If that's your metric we will be making up in public forever.

People who want to mask can mask, nobody is stopping them. But some of us like to see each others faces and breath fresh air.

Yeah, but we're talking about mass transit. Masking in confined public spaces seems perfectly reasonable if you are a reasonable person and not just a stubborn partisan.

That's why there are varying degrees of risk which must be assessed.

How many people died last year or last month from COVID? How many people died in the same time period from the Spanish flu?

Is it really that hard to understand?

The argument you are making is akin to saying that seat belts aren't necessary because people die from slipping and falling in the shower and if we were to address either problem it would be insurmountable. No, you make a prudent determination of which is more of a risk and address that issue.

It is too late.

He should implement a "mask season", October - Feb, when Covid/Flu/RSV is higher

masks aren't coming back. it's done. only a small minority want them. this battle is lost, better focus the energy on something else like better ventilation or something.

Better ventilation for pressurized cabins on multimillion dollar aircraft? Yeah, way cheaper solution than wearing a mask lol.

Well you're not getting people to wear the mask again so creativity is needed.

I said it before and I said it again. China told American law makers to force masks upon the population for the same reason that gangs use spray paint....mark their territory

Elitist class arent even wearing them.
Over and over again we had plenty of stories showing this being the case. Whether it was masking up just prior to an interview, making use of businesses closed to the public, or my favorite - "the spirit took me", they simply don't practice what they preach. So don't fuckin preach to me.
