Crappy bar speed today. The belt is a bit awkward for these which I think affects my setup and speed off the floor. It's probably just a matter of tweaking my form, I should take some video. The good thing is that my core feels ironclad. It probably didn't help that between 225 and 275 I took about a 5 minute break to talk to a friend. I did some jumping jacks and dynamic stretches but I probably wasn't as warmed up as I usually am for these.

Conditioning

- C2 rower: 10 minutes
- Treadmill: 10 minutes
- Stairmill: 11 minutes + 3 minutes cooldown

31+3 minutes total, HR in the 135-140 range. Legs are sore today.

I haven't weighed myself in a while so I should do so tomorrow morning. I doubt I've lost any weight as last weekend (with all the drinking and junk food) was a write-off.

Hockey
Another week, another loss. This time we were shutout 3-0 for our 6th loss in a row. We've beaten all of the teams in our division at least once so I'm not sure what the issue is. All I know is that today's game wasn't any fun.
 
A few more notes about yesterday's game... We played well defensively but that was partly a reflection of our opponents lack of offense (fewest goals scored in the division). We also had very few offensive chances which was partly a reflection of our opponent's strong defense (fewest goals against) but also a reflection of our lack of effort. I think guys are getting discouraged after losing so many in a row and as yesterday's game went on and we weren't getting chances people were giving up.

I looked at some stats this morning comparing our first 12 games (6-3-3 record) and our recent 6 games (0-6-0). In our first 12 games we averaged 4.2 goals for/game and 3.1 goals against/game. In our last 6 we've averaged 1.8 goals for and 5.3 goals against. The recent goals against is a bit bloated because of two bad games, one of which was the "ice storm game" where we only had 4 skaters and allowed 8 goals.

The really concerning thing is the complete lack of scoring. In the past we've been an average defensive team with above average scoring but recently our scoring has completely dried up. Of our top 4 scorers I'm the only one that is scoring anywhere near my usual pace. I have 5 points in 6 games while the other 3 have a combined 8 points over those same games.

We have 3 games left in the regular season to turn things around. Hopefully we can get some goals and started enjoying the games again otherwise it will be a short playoffs again.

This is the first week that the work sets have felt challenging. Not close to failure but I had to stay focused. I didn't rest long enough before the first back-off set because it felt surprisingly heavy. The 2nd and 3rd were fine.

I wore my belt for the last 5 singles. I didn't need the belt but it makes sense to get used to pulling with it before I actually need it. Today I went back to the deadlift singles program, 4 weeks going from 75% to 90% and 10 singles down to 4 singles. My max for this cycle is 450 lb.

- Facepulls: 5x20. Went a bit heavier today.
- Push-ups: 4x8. Cut back the volume a bit because my left shoulder was achy on Monday. It feels okay today so it should be fine for bench on Friday.

Hockey
So yeah we actually won a game finally! We only had 8 skaters as apparently half of our team stayed home to watch the Super Bowl (sucks to be them, lol) but that seemed to motivate us to play a really strong team game. We didn't give up too many bad chances and we got a lot more scoring chances this week compared to last week.

The first period ended 0-0. The other team scored early in the 2nd but we answered back about 20 seconds later to tie it. I put a low shot on net that the goalie saved and my winger banged in the rebound. About 5 minutes later the same thing happened: one d-man kept the puck in and put a shot on net and then a winger banged in the rebound to make it 2-1.

The other team scored early in the third period to tie it 2-2. Later in the period we gave up a couple partial breakaways and ended up taking penalties in both cases to stop the scoring chance. We actually had some good chances ourselves on the penalty kill but didn't score though the other team didn't score either. With about 1 minute left our leading scorer got a breakaway and slid the puck 5-hole for the game winner.

The only disappointing thing for me is that I didn't get a goal. I had two good chances in the third period but didn't bury them. Oh well. We now have 2 more games before the playoffs.
