At the risk of starting a world conflict between India and China, if you had to take a side, which side would that be?

I find basmati to be bland, it has nowhere the aroma jasmine rice has. It always remains hard, even after you boil it. Jasmine on the other side is soft and starchy. I don't understand why basmati exists.

I'm with you in the Jasmine ninja army.

Basmati sucks. So does cous cous.

Jasmine ftw, also pretty sure it's from Thailand not China.

I like basmati rice better.

Also to answer TS on why Basmati rice exist, it's not comparable to Jasmine as plain rice for sure. But it's a better fit for Biryani rice. Which is basically rice prepared with tons of Indian spices and herbs. It's drier in nature thus making Briyani a fit.

You should try Israeli couscous. They are a lot bigger and quite delicious.

Listen to this guy. I've always had basmati with koobideh kebab.

If Yotam Ottolenghi cooked it I wouldn't even care if the dish included meat.

Basmati is obviously perfect for Indian food. If the waiter brought me jasmine rice with my vindaloo I would slap the dot off his forehead.

Weird.Everybody that i know seems to prefer Basmati (incl. my brother), while i prefer Jasmine.
It smells better and i prefer more starchy long grain rice.

dated an armenian for 5 years. after so much of their way of making basmati,

basmati for life. dont even offer me jasmine.

Average jasmine >>>>>>>> average basmati
Well-made basmati >>>>>> well-made jasmine
