I have been reading alot on base conditioning lately. I hear to start off slow and gradually build it up. But I never see any thing specific.

For instance how many times per week should I be doing my 20-60 minutes of slow cardio

And also, which is it 20 or 60 minutes thats a big gap.

Ideas????????????

I do 45 min of LSD work once or if I have the time and are recovered, twice

It depends on what you are training for. If it is general conditioning and say you want to be in your best shape in the spring and summer, you would build a base at lower heart rates (the more time the better) through the winter then in early spring you would pick up the intensity and reduce the volume. If you have specific events in mind, then you would periodize so that you peak at the events, but again your base building should be a couple of months before the event.

rite. you need an aerobic base first, spend about a month doing lsd and conditioning with weights (id do it twice a week each) and then start with strength training for another 8 weeks or so , still with the lsd and lastly hiit and plyometrics for another 8 weeks. then repeat the cycle.

Do it as many times as you can. The above advice about seasonal cycles is good. Last summer I began not able to keep my legs moving for more than 20 minutes, but ended it doing regular 2 hour runs with a smile on my face all the while. There are no magic numbers as to how long you ought to be running with LSD - just listen to your body. Anything under 30 minutes LSD running should be considered shit, however.

Generally you want to get longer and longer with your runs, alternating the speeds and distances as required. Twice a week I ran very far, e.g. around 90 minutes (that might be a little excessive, but I love running), and twice a week I did a shorter, faster run topped off with some steep hill sprints or tabatas.

Not being a spaz, I RAN ON GRASS, because I like having knees. Nobody should be doing LSD on roads until we evolve little wheels on our feet.

I do 45-90 minutes lsd almost exclusively and then do a hIIT session every 10th workout.

You seriously need to change your custom user text/belt to "I RUN ON GRASS."

Thx for the input. From what I've heard here and from reading I will pick the middle ground of 60 minutes 2-3 times a week. That along with weights2x week & MMA training 3 x a week should kick me into shape. IN a considerably good time

LSD = Long, Slow Distance running. It gives you an aerobic base and leg endurance, which will help immensely when you come to do harder forms of running.

and everything else to. lsd causing metabolic changes that make your body more effective at .. well.. doing stuff so you can do any sort of training for longer with a good endurance base.
