They say bare knuckle is more brutal and more primitive? But is it, is it more brutal than mma? Mma is shin to the chin and elbow to the face, flying knee to the head, slamming on the head. Just see what Stephen Thompson's elbow did to Josh Emmett or Michael Page's knee did to Cyborg's forehead, Randleman suplexing Fedor. It doesn't get any more brutal than that.

No sport is more brutal than boxing.
They hit harder faster and more often.
The gloves also dont help with the trauma part either, they make it worst.

MMA isnt brutal because a shin to the chin doesnt happen every fight. It actually doesnt happen that much at all.

Most MMA looks like a very poor boxing match with some wrestling.

All the knees to the head and flying kicks, barely happen, and when they do, its like once in the fight.

Now compare that too Mike Tyson unloading a 20 punch barrage on you, faster than anyones throwing a kick

Post - 98 MMA got disappointingly soft.

That being said, both MMA and bareknucle boxing are the closest to actual fighting, since actual fighting is about landing the first drunken haymaker. A tie, IMO.

''Brutal'' is subjective.

But boxing is objectively more dangerous than either MMA or the bareknuckle stuff we saw at the weekend. Guys can take 12 round beatings in boxing. Fights are stopped quickly in MMA and in that bareknuckle thing, and are much shorter and won't involve taking as many blows to the head.

Bare knuckle is the most brutal, nearly every fight someone gets at least one bad cut or hematoma

Proper bare knuckle fights can last hours but the punch output is low. Punches have to be measured as breaks are common, not just fists, but wrists can take some jarring also. Watch the traveler fights, sickening knock outs happen but aren't the regular ending.
MMA has more variables, but I wouldn't say it was more brutal. They're both combat sports that require training, and of course people get hurt.
The early vale tudo, nhb would be more brutal than both I guess due to the rule structure.

Swayed towards MMA. I think the lack of protection in BKB means you cant really throw with reckless abandon and full commitment. MMA fights can vary a lot in brutality but if you're getting kneed in the head, having your arm snapped or getting badly GNP'd with elbows and shit...well, its pretty fucking harsh.

Boxing is a weird one because it doesnt LOOK as brutal as either MMA or BKB since its harder to get KOs and there tends to be less blood/superficial damage, but in reality its probably the worst of all for your long term health. Countless punches per fight that dont cause visible damage and dont look like much to the casual observer but are basically slowly turning your brain into a cabbage.

It's what you can and can't see...

Bare knuckle is considered more brutal to the general public cos you can see all the external damage.

If you there were MRI scans before, during and after a match, those same people would call boxing more brutal.
