Has this been discussed?

He is just an enormous bantamweight. Maybe this was the fight that the weight-cutting caught up with him. He did not look as fast and explosive as in previous fights.

I thought I had heard something about him struggling with it this time around. And there was a lot of talk of him moving up if Aldo moves up.

I dont know right or wrong but Barao said his loss is all about 1st Knockdown and after it he was at autopilot mode

Getting punched in the face was a bigger problem. It's one thing if he completely gassed out early in the fight, but he didn't. He only started slowing down a lot because he was getting beat up.

Yeah, coz he's never made the 135 limit before. Except for those other times when he did. Every time.

i hear some excuses are going to be made re: his weight cut....

Barao mentioned two things:
a) he didn't really have time to rest inbetween his last fight and the training camp for his next fight
b) Dillashaw's punch in the first pretty much deaded him for the rest of the fight.

He never mentioned anything about the weight cut. If it did affect him, as a Brazilian he definitely would have mentioned it.

The only thing that mattered in this fight was Barao got hit hard for 4 1\2 rounds and then Dillashaw won via TKO.

That has always been an issue. Barao's greatness was partly due to he fact that he went through this grueling weight cut every time for his buddy Aldo. It IS a factor but the Barao that we knew always had this in the package. It wasn't something new this time around.

Only Barao knows how much of a factor it really was. Personally, I think there was something off from the very beggining of the fight. And then that knockdown which was basically a flash ko took all air out of his sails. All credit to TJ. I am confident , however' that he will beat TJ in a rematch.

Wasn't there something like Barao having a good dieting going on in the countdown show. His doctor said his weight was already lower than in his last camp around the same time. I don't know but maybe the cut itself was problematic. The body doesn't always react the same way?

He said that it was the easiest cut yet. People need to stop creating excuses when even the fighter says that he's got none.

Hours before the weigh-in for UFC 173, which takes place on Friday at 20h (GMT) in Las Vegas, Renan Barao is already within the limits of Bantamweight (61.2 kg) to defend the belt division against American TJ Dillashaw. The coach of the champion, Jair Louren

He didn't look as fast because TJ was faster, probably the haymaker that crushed Barao probably scrambled his circuits

Yeah TJ is p4p smaller and p4p more skilled. Literally a smaller fighter owned him yet somehow Barao is p4p better.

I think getting cracked in the face that hard that early might have had something to do with it as well

I think the cut TJ opened up on Barao's face was an issue.

Nah, he said he had a good cut for this fight.

He was unable to recover from that knockdown in the first.

People always talk about how horribly massive his cut is, but I must be blind, because to me he just looks like a relatively large BW. Many of his opponents look equally large.
