Bagwork clip from my first workout of the new year. Any comments/suggestions are welcome. Rip into me gentlemen.
Well, it's tough to gauge only that length of time, but if I were standing there fixing things this is what I'd say: - You have a tick. Something another fighter or trainer could pick up on that lets them know what you're going to do. In poker, this would be called a "tell." Right before you're about to throw a stiff jab you seize up and c*ock it. Not for very long mind-you, so you may have either gotten away with it or in the past, used it as a sort of feint. But I'd prefer you just stay loose and let that jab come out of nowhere. - You have a one-and-done habit. It's cool to set up power-shots, and I like that yours can come out of nowhere or off of teasing movements. But what about after? As the video goes on you move after you throw, but I'd like to see more than one put together.
Pick up your punch output You're letting your right hand float, bring it back to the chin as fast as you throw it out throw more than one punch at a time - body head, head body Technique looks sharp looks like you're hitting with your fore knuckles on the jab, make sure to turn it over and try to hit with your first two knuckles, tighten fist
Thanks guys. I think my phone is running out of storage because it only recorded about half of that round. I started to pick up my output and put more power punches together later in the round. Maybe I'll free up some space and record another one. I've never had anyone bring up that tick Sinister. Something to work on.
When you circle to your right or back up, it takes you a second to get your balance back. I see you bouncing in one example to adjust and rolling back off of your front foot in another (when you went off camera)... however at :39 you nailed it and threw a nice right hand off of the step. I think what's happening here is your hips are getting out ahead of your upper body.
Move around that bag like it's trying to beat the shit out of you. Quick jab, couple quick steps to the side.. maybe a one, two... then pivot.. turn, then throw that solid hook you've got from another angle. Move in and out from the bag quicker after popping it. I don't know if you were just taking it easy on the bag and maybe I'm just giving you footwook advice for nothing. But that's what I noticed. You hit that thing with some real pop, so you've definitely got that going for you.
I've never been schooled to use excessive and movement. Just stay slow and smooth because being efficient makes you fast. Even when I pick up the pace and output, the movement stays pretty similar.
Lol @ putting your camera on a stack of those step thingies in the back room of your gym. I tried the exact same thing at my gym several times, but it would keep falling over. And i could never get the right footage. Freaking frustrating.
I also like this setup cuz it shows his footwork in the mirror. People usually post vids without their feet showing.
Without reading other comments: * More jabs * Less single shots * Jab more * Step-over left hook is nice, but guard up on your right side and chain it into a combo, don't just pot-shot it. * Try to mix in more jabs. * Good feints too, but use more then just your hands to feint - body movement too. * Jabs etc. * Don't sit in range with a passive guard after a power shot/combo. * Long , fast, left handed punches more often.
after the left hook you stay near the bag waiting for the left to come back at his place. i would add bob and wave after the hook if you stay there. see 00:35 to have an example.
One punch at a time? If you have an amateur fight you will surely lose with that kind of punch output. COMBINATIONS
