Just like my glove thread i'm gonna put together a list of the types of bags and pads and what brands make them and which ones you should buy.

Heavy Bags:

They materiels they come in are either leather, synthetic leather, canvas, nylon,or some other form of materiel.

Leather bags will last longer than any othe bag,so if you own a gym or are buying one for the long run it will cost you anywhere between $150-300 bucks

Synthtic bags are still durable but probaly won't last decades of use like leather bags will it should cost anywhere between $150-250 bucks

Canvas bags are tough and should last awhile, maybe longer than a synthetic bag,but they are harder to care for than leather bags they should cost between $80-150 bucks

Nylon bags are cheaper and are somewhat durable, they generally may last 5 years, they should run you anywhere between $50-150 bucks.

Regular Heavy Bags:

They weigh anywhere between 60-120 pds and the length is anywhere between 36-50 ins. long.

Pros:Great for developing your weapons, durable, will give you a great workout, chasing the bag around will help you develop somewhat of a sense of being in a fight.

Cons:Depending on if you have a foam liner or what you filled it with they may be hard and not having the right gloves may hurt, sometimes when you just wanna develop your punches the bag swaying can be annoying.

Everlast,CSI,Windy,Fairtex make these type of bags.

I'd reccomend an Everlast bag.

Large heavy bags:

Pros:Large size insures more durability and it is easier to hit allowing you to increase your punching power

Cons:Expensive I doubt if you'll find one for under $200

They are generally made of leather or synthetic and should cost anywhere between $230-500 dollars.

Double end bags:

Pros:Help develop accuracy,form,speed,clean punching,and awareness,constant movement equals better workout.

Cons:Not for beginners, can't really hit it that hard, must replace bladder every once in awhile

Cost:$40-80

Types:

Traditional

Mexican style

Everlast,Ringside,Cleto Reyes, and Grant make these.I reccomend the Ringside Mexican style one since you can train head and body with it.

Thai Bags

Pros:You can work out all your weapons easily, can train leg kicks, slim design develops accuaracy,6 ft length makes workout more realistic

Cons:They're tall and heavy making them hard to find a spot to place them.

Everlast,Windy,Fairtex,Ringside,Title,CSI make these bags. All of the companies bags are of very good quality but I reccomend a CSI bag.

I'll update with the pads tomorrow.

I'm just about to buy thai-pads so this would be appreciated... I was thinking the CSI ones but I read some things about questionable quality. How are yours holding up?

Mines are great the only gripe I have about them is that they don't have the hook&loop feature,it's just a 2 flap system, other than that they're probaly some of the best pads on the market.

Ok, thanks. I agree, the 2 flap system is annoying...

Any thoughts on the KO Fightgear banana Thai bag? Also, what are your thoughts on the weight the bag should be?

I never pesonally used it and Clamp did a review on it in the review section.I personally like mine's over a hundred pounds, because I like to land clean punches and not have to wait for the bag to come back to me.

Yeah I like to train in combos knowing I'll land without having to adjust to much.

Ya, I have a bag thats either 70 or 80 (i think 70) and what a pain in the ass it is, having to re-adjust all the time. Especially for kicks. I attached a 45 lbs plate and a bungee cord to the bottom, but it's still a pain.

I PURCHASED SOME EXTRA THICK FAIRTEX THAI PADS ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND I LOVE THEM. THEY ARE AWESOME QUALITY BUT A LITTLE PRICY. I THINK THEY WERE RIGHT AROUND $130-$140.

Have you tried the pvc pipe/mail pipe method to add some weight/stability?

^^^
No...? Got a link?

I did a quick search but didn't see anything.

Back on topic:
I have the Spartan Thai pads, with a 2 flap set up, and they're not bad for $90 CND, but next time I'd rather drop the extra cash and get some hook and loop throughs.

It's easy, just remove the innards from your bag and fill a pvc/cardboard pipe with sand and put it in the middle of the bag, refill and that's it. Should add at least 15 pounds to your bag but maybe more depending on length and circumference.....
