Lest you fear that I've been too busy setting up my Death Match with the MMA Gurlz to keep up with my journal and its techniques, I applied myself and put together a new tutorial.

I'm wasn't sure what to call this triangle, since "reverse triangle" is already taken by about two dozen triangle variants from every position, so I'll just called it the "backwards triange", which I don't think has been taken yet.

Nice technique. Cassio teaches this wrong way variation too. He never showed to push the head to tighten it up, though, and I'll have to try it. I finish it occasionally that way, but the inverse armbar variation is really my go to when people hug the leg like that.

This has really worked well for me often..

1 reason is guys cant see behind them. So when you lock the legs down backwards sometimes they just think its a weak triangle.. alowing you to cross the arm easy... and then switch back to a reg sided triangle.. which is much tighter to choke with.

But this set up works wonders for me on locking people down in this position. It would suck to work 3-4 minutes to get in a position to lock the triangle just to let him get away.. So this coupled with Aesopians Roll of triangle recounter is a great option.
Which you can find here -----> http://www.aesopian.com/23/triangle-push-up-sweep/

Whats great is if you get it backwards and then do the Triangle Twist.. you get a wicked neck crank that hurts like a mother for the guy on the bottom as long as your retaining mount.

I use this when the guy tries to take the pressure off the triangle by dropping his elbow down to one side. It works very well. Those who do not know about it can be subbed wih it. THose that do are forced to try and posture up to avoid the choke allowing for proper triangle/armbar.

This kid I train with rolls people over after getting the backward triangle and pulls thier head up. He's had good success finishing people this way.

You know, you can still sub the guy with a triangle from there. Just pull his head down and squeeze, without worrying about getting the arm across. That's how Eddie Bravo teaches it, I believe. Although here your legs are going the other way, it should work fine.

As long as the legs are tight in a figure 4, he'll tap. True, it may be part "smother," and will take a bit more time, but it should work.

I saw this on same video and show my friends in class. Few months later my friend used this backwards triangle-revers armbar in sub wrestling tournamet. He didnt get the tap but it was very close.

I've nailed that twice but I have thighs like a small bison. I use it as a counter if they stack me and try to pass my guard.

Thanks Ace, nice technique.
I was taught this by a Luta Livre brown belt from Poland. Here is a minor detail about the minor adjustments you make that I was taught "differently".

When pushing their head down, really make sure to turn their head towards your leg that is trapped under their arm. At the same time, shift your hips a bit away from their trapping arm, kind of sliding your leg out from the entrapment.
Those two actions in one let you block their left side artery (if they use their right arm to trap) wth your left inner thigh.

Everything else in the tutorial is awesome as always.

yeah, eddie teaches it with the gable behind the head

my coach taught this recently, he emphasised grabbing the left knee with both hands and pulling it inward to finish with the choke.
I personally like to keep the original triangle closed and go for a kimura, you dont always need a kimura grip, you can usually grab the wrist with one hand and the elbow with the other and just twist as thats kinda what the guy is already doing with his arm.

:) After reading this technique today, it came up during rolling tonight. Didn't finish it though. Couldn't pry his arm over, he was being very stubborn. I could have waited him out pretty much indefinitely to tire him, but it was training, and so rather than be stubborn myself I transitioned back and to an omaplata.

hey i made this highlight! its nice to see someone use it as a source :icon_chee

yes i use the "backwards" triangle all the time, you could see me do it in one of the vids i posted. actually if theres a little space still when i lock up the triangle, i just wedge one of my fists in there, and then pull down with the other hand. kinda ugly, but legal, and works well.

Haha, I thought I was the only person who had ever shoved there arm into a mucked up triangle to get more choke and finish the move. Nice to see there's another innovator out there who realizes that more pointy bones on the side of necks are always good in jj.

Very nice. Karo also has a way of dealing with this problem that is very similar on his instructionals.

Thanks, that's a great technique! I have been having troubles with that particular defense.

Im pretty sure Marcello garcia has this in his instructionals
