This is a mini-doc from six years ago that a couple friends and associates of mine did on Joe Taimanglo. Heading into his match with Caldwell it's quite obvious very few stateside fans knew just how formidable he is and how skilled he is at submission grappling and BJJ. This doc is more of an insight into his personal background and humble beginnings but it delves a little into his BJJ pedigree too. The guy is a Pan-Asian Games BJJ Gold medalist and BJJ brown belt. The fact that so many people were surprised that he could catch a wrestler (albeit an elite one) like Caldwell in something slick actually surprises me. I always knew if he was gonna win, it would be by KO or submission.

I feel like Tama should become the new cult following with shoop pics of him fighting dragons and riding into battle on a Unicorn.

I met him once in Guam he seemed like a really cool guy

One of the coolest! Humble, hardworking, just straight up always on the grind. Not just a badass fighter but also the kind of cat you can kick it with.

Dude, Taimanglo was a fuckin +1000 underdog. If you know he was going to win, you wouldn't be posting on Sherdog, because you'd be fuckin rich.

*sigh* Please reread. I didn't KNOW he was gonna win. I knew that the odds were stacked against him tremendously, I said I always knew that IF he was gonna win, or his best CHANCE of winning was via strikes or BJJ submissions because those are the two areas where he is stronger and more polished than Caldwell. Part of the reason I didn't bet on this one is because I also knew the likelihood of Caldwell constantly taking him down and smothering him and wrestle humping him into oblivion was probably greater as two rounds showed. However, if there ever was a chance for Baby Joe it was to catch Caldwell with a sub or a knockout strike. That's what I meant.

I defiantly became a fan Friday night he seemed so humble and happy thanks for posting that video
