Woot, woot!

This is one of their best articles yet in my opinion.

About a legend that most noobs probably never heard of. (No, he does not fight in the UC, nor was he on TUF)

Goes through some of his crazy techniques, including the cross guard sweep I have been hitting lately.

Here is the link: http://www.graciemag.com/news/149/ARTICLE/10264/2008-04-18.html

And here is the man:

Back in 1995 Nino taught me Roleta's "Helicopter" from a different position. Nino is who I also got the "Invert Guard" from.

Nick and Nate Diaz are the only other ones at the academy who really "get it", when it comes to understanding and using his stuff. His game is pretty weird. A favorite of ours for many years!

Thanks Montanha.

Nice technique.

The set up obviously begins like the rolling kneebar.

Is the dynamic the same, or can you pull off the sweep when he is countering the kneebar?

Lol @ "Flight of the Eagle"

Good article. I'd be curious to see the kinds of no-gi stuff he says he would come up with if he was invited to Abu Dhabi

So ... much ... awesomeness.

A rebuke to those who say there ain't nothing new under the sun. Roleta dominated with the freakiest stuff imaginable.

Nice sweep from turtle montanha
Q. do you grip the sleeve/arm half way into the roll? and can it be pulled off without gripping the sleeve or will he just post?

The last sweep in the article looks great. I really don't know much about Roleta but now I can see why he is amazing.

Yea, like in the 5th frame I grip pretty high to get his shoulder to turn. If you miss the grip it just becomes a big mess if he posts, but you are at the least out from under your opponent.

Its a game for long lanky flexible guys. I can teach classic BJJ, but have no clue how to teach the weird sweeps I pull out my ass. I have a bunch of old tournament VCR Videos of Roleta and can just see it, but the feel is if the guy is trying to squish me I reel his arm in right away. And when a guy is backing up or trying to get away, sometimes I [with a long reach] can grab a his sleve even when he is up in the air. Key is to get way under him.

Guys who know my game back completly out, quickly, most dont see it comming.
