What are some good tips for avoiding getting guillotined while shooting doubles?
I know as long as you pass its about impossible for them to finish while your inside control but what else could i do to prevent the choke. Double leg is my main TD for no-gi and i have seen lots of people get choked

ur advices plz :)

Jacare always keeps his head low and in between the legs on his doubles to avoid the guillotine..

Best way is to keep chin deep in as much as you can to prevent the guillotine. Realisticly the choke is just a pressure hold on the neck, so you can posture out of it and to escape (properly).

Shoot in low at hip range, chin in, if your going for a single leg, use the top or cone of your head to exert on the opponent. If your head is too much up, then your opponent can easily get the guillotine choke.

Hope it helped.
This is going to be added on the CE site.

When shooting for a double you're supposed to keep your head up and facing into them. If you drop your head to where you're looking at the ground while shooting, you can get caught. Keep your head up, and right next to their body, you can prevent almost, if not all, guillotines.

also sorry i misread, thought you said single leg at first.

what he said, and underlined the key components that are important. I notice lots of people forget that and suffer from it, even sometimes myself.

keep your upper body straight and having the shooting motion come from the legs. If you have good form in your shots you will not get caught.

Don't look at the mat when you shoot. Look forward. If you have a tendency to look down when shooting(which is perfectly normal - I know I do) maybe exaggerate it a bit and drill looking slightly upwards - hopefully when under pressure, it

Head up, back straight, keep the head tight to there hip...

Head up, proper posture, and most importantly, a quick and accurate shot.

I wrestled but don't have much formal BJJ knowledge so I may be wrong but simply setting up your shot should be enough against guys that aren't top notch. Snaps (collar tie or arms), posts (under the elbow), drags (again under the elbow), under hooks, maybe talk to a good wrestler in your gym? Try mixing in High-Cs and some upper body throws and take downs (especially bear hugs) These moves should be able to keep your neck out of harms way.

For you guys that have trouble with your lowering your head. Really make sure you change your level well. Try to have a practice or two a week where you just shoot the whole time and NEVER step out of your stance. In fact that's just a bad habbit to get into during any practice. If you have a two hour practice you should be in your stance for two hours.

dont let them get you in guard keep your legs on the outside and drive your head to the mat. Then there is sort of a handstand move you can do where you switch over there body not sure what its called.

Whenever you shoot the double leg, first of all, you need to set it up. Secondly, you need to understand that just because you're stuck in a guillotine, that it's not the end of the world. Especially if he doesn't trap that arm. It's semi easy to get out if they don't trap that arm. But generally, just having good technique on your shoot and the finish will keep it from happening in the first place.

@ Katsumi Yamada

It's a shame they gave his title away to Makoto Nagano. Katsumi Yamada will always be Mr. Ninja Warrior to me. Not that Nagano doesn't deserve it, but there can only be one Mr. Ninja Warrior.

Chin down and keep the side of my head pressed to their hip and always try to pass and land in side control. Even if you mess up it makes it hard for them to grab you.

single leg : head always on the inside of the hip, chin tucked
double leg : head inside is good (to knock them over as well as protection), but if your head is on the outside, say to the left, make sure you drive the legs to the left, so if you get caught up, you will be in sidecontrol and be in the correct position to escape easily.

when you keep your head on the inside, your really just have to watch out for a 10 finger choke, which can be countered easily, but can still be a quick and nasty choke.
