Happened in my town, apparently the dude in the white car had a heart attack while stepping on the gas turning his car into a bullet.

You could say that it could happen just the same in an automatic car, but rest assured that its far harder, if you have a heart attack while on 3rd you wont reach such a speed for example, also usually when something feels wrong in your car you immediatly hit the clutch.

A lot of old people shouldnt he allowed to drive period. Hell, we allow a lot of dangerous drivers that shouldnt be allowed to drive, get behind the wheel everyday.

You should have to plug into a heart monitor every time you drive and if your heart gives out then the car turns off

Elderly and heart disease are giant vague categories.
What percentage of auto related deaths are attributed to being old? having heart disease? why not both?

Being old and having a history of heart conditions is a RED FLAG for driving.

Elderly people don't have the dexterity for manual transmission. Imagine them stopped at red light or stpp sign on a steep slope.

Wait til all the illegal aliens are elderly with no car insurance

I think we should ban everything from everyone. Thats where you guys are headed with this libtard mindset.

<SelenaWow>An Oldman got a heartattack one time and this happened......Lets ban all old people from driving automatic cars.

Why not ban Automatic cars all together? Lots of fatasses out there who can get a heart attack, and have the same exact same thing happened...Manual cars will prevent that.

IDK, unless you can show me proof that old people getting heart attacks while going 100 mph in automatic car happens all the time, who cares? It's just a freak occurrence.

Isn't this how Macho Man went out?

RIP.

At some point ADAS systems will prevent such terrible accidents.

I drive a base model Mazda 3 with a manual transmission, and it'll get to about 70 at redline in third gear. So grandpa would need to be in first gear when he has a heart attack so he only hits 35 mph or so.

My grandpa drove a Chevy S10 with a five speed until the day his dementia creeped up and they revoked his license.

Oh man, I kinda agree. But that’s a terrible precedent to set.

The end goal is to have all cars self driving, and then raise insurance rates so high that only the rich get to drive around America anymore. That kind of freedom will soon be take from us.

A main aspect of utter state control is taking away freedom of movement.

The cars will probably become like a twitter platform of some sort. Where if you have illegal viewpoints, the liberal thought control police will ban you from using their vehicle. And you can no longer travel.

Im sure theres outliers but overall manual transmission is going to provide more challenges for the elderly than automatics.

I would even go further and support subsidizing older people to get to use lyft and Ubers in exchange for the rest of us to get lower insurance

If you are too old to drive stick. You shouldnt be driving period.

It's the fault of power-hungry politicians at the state levels, mainly. Every time the issue of testing older (say over 75) drivers more often, every couple years---or making those who are elderly (say 85 and up) test annually, AARP and the old folks (who ALL vote) threaten to vote out anyone who restricts their ability to keep their license and the issue dies. I've noticed that for the last 30 years.
