Serious question for the computer guys...with all the shit available today why can’t they have 30 cameras surrounding the octagon . Processing motion, contact, takedowns etc?. Every fight judged exactly the same, fighters know the deal, F the judges, is this possible? If not today, soon?

That's not how it works... There's still uncertainty / randomness if you automate it.

Maybe giving the judges more time and access to instant replay might make them more accurate

I think they just need experienced people as judges.

I always revert back to one time in Bellator, some years back, the judges were Randy Couture, John McCarthy and Jeff Blatnik

And it was perfect, that's what we need, governing body in MMA that supplies proper judges.

I mean, Joe Solis, can anyone let us know his background in combat sports and MMA in particular? Presumably he has spent extensive years studying the sport?

I almost have recommended involving the fans vote as part of the decision, but then you have to worry about the potential of a popularity contest

I wouldn’t know I don’t leave it in the hands of the judges

The problem I see with actual fighters being used would be Bias...

Possibly yeah, they would certainly need to to have ZERO affiliation with any gym.

I mean, refs are trusted not to have an bias

The problem is athletic commissions supplying asshat judges who don’t really understand the sport.

Address that issue and you fix the problem.

People are people, MMA is a relatively small community, a fight card is going to have many different fighters and affiliations..I like concept of having experienced fighters involved, but imagine the scandals deserved or not if people view what they consider a robbery..

I don't know, I think the level of respect on the likes of Randy/John/Jeff and a whole host of others who could be involved, would seriously diminish a lot of the plebs from screaming ROBBERY! every time they don't like a decision

And at least former fighters/refs with knowledge of the sport would be able to articulately & accurately explain their decisions if needed

How many refs attend each show? Why not add a few more and rotate them as judges as the night goes on

Again, at least they are familiar with the sport unlike a lot of current judges

There are far too many intangibles/variables that can't be measured at this stage in my opinion. Even if the fighters wore sensors that could measure the amount of torque a submission attempt has or the newtons of force a strike has, I don't believe fighting can be judged that objectively yet, unfortunately. For example, the reality is that if you drop someone with a jab and almost finish the fight, you will ultimately score more credit on the scorecards than if you land that same punch against a fighter and it barely makes them flinch -- in other words, the same punch against 2 different fighters has a different result on the score cards because one fighter has a better chin -- similar to fighters that get cut easily vs fighters that don't cut easily. I'm not sure something like this can be measured unless there was some sort of high technology brain activity monitor that could measure how conscious a fighter is after being hit.
