Oh my illustrious Sherdog brothers... Do they break the cage down and bring it from event to event? Are the metal links the same or do they need replacement?

I know at the very least that the UFC have multiple cages. There is at least one larger size and one smaller size.

It's almost surely not always the same cage I would guess they have a few especially since they have already had 2 events on the same day or an event only a day after the previous one

But is it always the same fence? Does it ever need replacement?

It's not the same. They actually have two cages in total. One from the WEC and then the UFC. The Strikeforce cage was sold to WSOF for a couple million. The only thing is that the WEC one is smaller, so it makes the fights more exciting. Basically they just ship the one that's closer to the city they are going to, so it's luck of the draw.

The UFC can only afford one cage.

They probably have more than one, but I don't see any reason why they should replace them after each event

And yeah they do have different sized cages as well

I seem to recall a Vlog dana mentioning they had 3 cages, 1 small and 1 regular size cage and a backup with spare cage doors

No possible way the cage costs a couple million.

Also serious question....does it require maintenance? Ie painting etc?

    yes, it is.
I recall a brazilian show stating how the cage traveled to Brazil for the event.
They made a big deal out of it (how the cage is patented and unique).

note: Obviously they have at least two (since they have events at the same day at different parts of the world). But they don't simply build a new cage for every event.

Brazillian TV is full of shit.

It's not always the same cage. If there is an event in two countries on the same day it can't be the same single cage.

    He's probably joking.

I forgot which fighter documentary it was but there was mentioned that a half-cage without that platform and just gym mats cost upwards of $100K. I'm guessing they're not using your standard chicken fence and probably somehting that could withstand fighter's clinching on the fence.

They really need to go to the smaller cage full time I'm sorry but nights like tonight prove what a difference it makes

They are extremely different and yes very expensive. They are in fact designed for pressure unlike normal fencing. They are not painted but covered in thick coats of vinyl for protection.

They do require maintenance and ufc changes out their canvases each event for event numbers, sponsors etc. The fencing itself is not painted it is covered in thick vinyl to protect the fighters from exposed metal and burs and such.
