My 3 year old started wetting the bed again. This is completely unprovoked. We've talked to her. According to her she's not scared to get out of bed at night and go. This past week it's happened 3x. She has gone about a year or so w/out an accident before this started occurring. It started about 3 weeks ago. I need advice.

Whenever my kid does that I give him a light spanking just to let him know that its not ok.

damn. you actually did a good job to get her to go to the bathroom at 3.

i had a physics professor that worked on developing a device which prevented children from wetting the bed. pretty basic.

hooks up to your finger and somewhere else on your body. before children urinate, they perspire. when they do this, the device on the finger will send an electric signal which will cause the child to move. if they move, they won't urinate. they have to lay in the same spot in order to relax and let it flow.

Just a phase probably. She's still young imo, if she was 7,8 then id worry a bit. Limit drinks after a specific time, 6pm maybe. My 4 yr old still has accidents once in a while. Not a big deal

If this was a one off deal I wouldn't worry too much. The thing is this has become common place over a period of about 3 weeks. That's where the worry comes in.

Hunter, here are some thoughts off the top of my head,

First, it might be completley natural -as some children don't develop proper bladder control until older -spanking or disciplining them is ridiculous unless maybe you know they purposely are not getting up when they know they have to go.

Second, mouthbreather and deep sleepers will have long REM and other sleep states and consequently often wet the bed, talk in their sleep, and sleep walk. Once again this is nature and can be grown out of.

Third, diet and when and how much they consume fluids affects their cycle -experiment with this to see if you can affect this.

Fourth, are you making them wear night pants? Do so, so that you don't have to clean up the bed in the middle of th night and be frustrated at them.

Fifth, there are several professional treatments for this if necessary -i was considered a danger to myself as a child from the intense sleep walking and had to do many different therapies in attempts to improve this.

It's definitely not something to really worry over too much -kids all develop in different orders and speeds

I try to make a point to pee before I go to sleep so there isn't any pee in the system to come out while sleeping.

Some kids just have bladder problems. I work with kids and every now and then there's a second-grader who still has a bladder problem.

The best comedy was when I saw two first-grade kids playing legos together. I walked by them and I smelled shit. Working with toddlers taught me the bat-signal when a kid shits himself. So I jump into the fray and I have to decide which kid shit themselves. I tell another teacher who knows the kids better (It was a summer camp) who I think it was. They said "No, it's probably the other kid. He has a loose butt or something."

Well I'm at odds with myself becuase I could have sworn I was correct. Turns out I was. And so was the other teacher. Both kids had shit themselves. These shitpants knew they smelled so bad that they removed themselves from their original friends and found each other, like shitpantsing-soul mates. Who could judge one another when they had shit themselves as well? It was a friendship made in heaven, or in this case, a friendship made it shit. A friendshit.

I would just give it time, and have her pee before bedtime. She is still very young. Now if she's 13 and still wetting, then that's a different story.

My only advice would to be to work with the child but don't get frustrated or angry. This could develop an anxiety about the bathroom all together. Lik3 others have said its most likely a stage he will grow out of.

Don't worry about it, late potty training can actually be a sign of intelligence and independent thinking.

Some extra smart/stubborn kids need to be tricked into thinking abandoning diapers is their idea.

I was going to make a joke about beating the kid but I seriously didn't expect anyone to be dumb enough to think that hitting their kid was a good solution to bed wetting.
