http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F7QP20?redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_p200_d0_i1 I'm thinking of buying that ^ because it's the cheapest thing I can find. 60 bucks for 480 yards. But it's 2 inches, might be too wide. Anyone used this for their fingers? Anyone know of any alternative to protect their fingers? My fingers always get heavily scraped. The part right below the nails. My index, middle and ring finger always end up bleeding if I don't tape it. But so far all the tapes I've used always comes off when I tape it. Anyone know of any techniques or brand? I really like the one I linked because it's so cheap and affordable but that worries me too. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Personally, I go with this stuff: http://amzn.to/1OSg66p I use it at my gym, and we go through about a case a month (students can use the tape themselves). I tear it down the middle. It works better than anything else I've ever used, and I've been doing BJJ for the better part of 20 years.
I've used tons of different athletic tapes over the years and I have been most impressed with Tape Armor, recently. I don't have to try to split up my tape for fingers, it's already ready to go! Free shipping and no tax through their website. I ordered 16 rolls last month. http://tapeyourfingers.com
Because they are suppose to be white. I think you are thinking Kinesio tape. I mean there are colored athletic tape but for the most part they are white.
Are you familiar with http://tapeandroll.com/ It's similar to tape armor but a bit cheaper. I just found this site after some googling
Zonas 0.5in athletic tape is the best tape I've ever used. It lasts an entire 2 hour judo practice (where gripping is more emphasized than BJJ) and even takes a couple of minutes for me to finally remove at the end. It's good shit. Edit: As for how to tape your fingers, it depends on how you personally hold your grips and how your training partners and opponents react to said grips. What works best for me is taping my middle and ring fingers together, like a buddy system, at their DIP joints and again at their PIP joints (Google em). Again, this works for me because I do judo, where we're supposed to grip the pinky, ring, and middle fingers with the most strength, and my pinky's more flexible than the other two. Try different configurations and see what works. Zankou always posts this vid of Xande training at Tenri judo where he tapes each finger individually in a helix format. Whatever works.
I think it was Keenan on a recent video urging people not to tape their fingers unless they are recovering from an injury. If they are healthy, better to strength your fingers without an aid.
Funny, I just ordered a case today. I have ordered from Ithica before: http://www.ithacasports.com/zonas.html But I saw this deal on a reddit thread and just bought a case today: http://www.domeproductsonline.com/finger-tape/ $40 for 96 rolls of 1/2" x 10 yard fingertape. Shipping was $5.22 I figure I'll keep half at home and donate the rest to the gym for those who need it in a pinch
Meh, easy to say that shit when you don't have a job to go to requiring fully functioning fingers. He's talking from the perspective of a BJJ lifer who trains full time, and whose only obligation is to do more BJJ. Also, no amount of "strengthening" can account for fingers being twisted beyond the range of motion of their joints to the point of getting ligament sprains. THAT is what I use athletic tape for. @TS: http://www.ithacasports.com/zonas.html
