Major League Baseball dealt the most severe punishment against a team in its history Monday by suspending Houston Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch for a year for their role in using electronic equipment to steal signs, while fining the organization $5 million and stripping them of first- and second-round draft picks in 2020-2021.

An hour later, Astros owner Jim Crane announced that Luhnow and Hinch were both fired.

“I felt with what came out in the report they both had responsibilities," Crane said. “Neither one of them started this but neither one of them did anything about it."

The message sent was clear: Baseball will not permit cheating in baseball, and the next organization that uses illegal electronic equipment will be dealt even a harsher penalty.

So... should they be stripped of their World Series Title? When you look at their home game box scores, compared to their away games during the World Series, the numbers are incredible. Their middle line up batters have a batting average swing of over .300 !!!

I think this is life time ban stuff. They deprived other teams from an honest shot at the Championship. They did this through the season, playoffs, and World Series.

Here is a good video showing how they did it. There are others out there against different teams, but this one give you the idea of how they cheated.

Well isn't the irony here that the cheating ended up fooling the guy when they switched the signs and he struck out?

It should be a stiff penalty, but teams should also know to switch their signs.

I agree.

The Astros' batting average was through the roof on their home games. Now we know why.

Just imagine how when the public initially caught wind of spy gate and cheating by the Patriots nothing like this was done. The NFL swept it all under the rug.

I'm sure they're all cheating somehow. The way the Astros reminded me of the guy that cheated his way to winning "Millionaire". First day apparently he had 4 pagers for each arm and on da 2, when there were suspicions, there was random coughing

Astros and Redsux both cheated the Yankees out of Rings!

Pretty much a nothing penalty. Hinch and Luhnow take the fall, even though the investigation showed they didn't really participate in it. Nothing happens to the players who were deeply involved in it. Owner walks away with a 5M dollar fine, which is nothing to a billionaire. The draft picks aren't even that big a deal either.

They should have had the WS stripped. Altuve should have his MVP stripped. And some of the players should have gotten year long suspensions.

If you were a billionaire, would you give up 5M and 4 draft picks for a World Series?

Fuck the Astros. The penalty is peanuts compared to them winning the ultimate prize. The owner should have been suspended, international spending stripped and the WS vacated as well.

Manfred can eat a dick for going light on them and then silencing the other teams from talking about this.

That's pretty cold, man. It's happening during the game, the whole team is in on it. How fucked.

Just give the catcher and pitcher some sort of communication device? Idk. Policing the use of cameras and shit like that in 2020 is a tall task.

Spygate was fucked too, but when you consider that taping was ALLOWED? Well, not so fucked then. Idk shit about baseball anymore, so idk what taping is ok and what's not.

Just accept that everyone is trying to fuck you, and find a way around it. There's a reason guys cover their mouths when talking.

You guys both hit it spot on. The owner still got his world series title (albeit it's not tainted but still) and he just had to fire a few people over it. The players still get their rings and their money and their guaranteed contracts, they don't really care.

You don't think someone like Jerry Jones would cheat his ass off in NFL and give up $5mil plus some draft picks and fire his whole coaching staff if he could win 1 more title before he dies? You don't think the players would allow their manager to get fired if they could win a world series?

I don't know if you can strip them of the title....if there is something in the CBA but this isn't that huge of a deterrent unless the manager really values his name and reputation.

At this point there has to be consequences for the players as well. It's a total joke that the Commissioner is covering most of this up hoping that it goes away. This is worse than steroids.

Well yes... Altuve got the MVP, Ring, Endorsements, and Max Contract! There are consequences! =D

What a pathetic punishment. Ban the coaches for life, strip them of the title, suspend all the players they can prove knew about it for a season, take away their top 5 picks for 4 years, then fine the team enough to make hit hard to pay the players they have left.

Fuck this slap on the wrist shit, BURY that team and make sure everyone understands that nobody is above the rules.

Exactly. How did teams not figure this out right away and switch the signs? It's really obvious.

So if no ne developments happen from this, and Altuve continues to put up these types of numbers for another 10 years, will he get into the HOF? or will he get the barry bonds treatment/?
