Assume Trump, Dems please don't nominate Clinton!!

contrary to the opinion of many young voters, Bernie being a Brooklyn Jew is a huge problem for many older voters.
"omg, a Jew in the white house, ass kissing to israel! being forced to eat kosher stuff all the time! no way!"

Ugh. I certainly hope you're wrong, but it's possible.

I would buy that if the socialism stigma did not carry over into the moderate left and depress voters. It's hard to predict how debates will go against somebody who is as much of a vulgar and popular liar as Trump, but if we're not seeing the mythical young-voter groundswell by now, it's probably not going to happen in the general. Bernie turns off a lot of older voters. I wish that were not the case.

Good points. I would say that if Sanders can beat Clinton and the Establishment Machine, then he can beat Trump (lots of big if in there, I know). Meanwhile somebody as ruthless and disgusting as Trump can have a field day with Clinton. Couple that potential w/ the crazy turnout for the GOP primaries, and all bets are off.

If you check history, even JFK being a freaking Catholic was a problem for him in 1960. I can remember my staunch Protestant
parents lamenting the fact that he might win, and he was a Christian..."forchrissakes."

I'm aware. But that's 1960. The world has changed a lot since you retired.

I am creating this thread, because I basically view nominating Clinton vs. Trump, as being suicide by the Dems.

Imagine the debate:

Clinton: Mr. Trump, Trump University is a disgrace, and you need to answer for it.

Trump: I don't need to a hear a lecture from someone who is under investigation by the FBI.
_________________________________________________________________________

Clinton: Mr. Trump, you have no legislative history, no experience in politics, you have not proven yourself to be competent in governing a state, city, or even the local school board.

Trump: You were Secretary of State for years, and accomplished nothing.

________________________________________________________________________

Clinton will get picked apart by Trump, she struggles with Bernie, and all he wants to talk about are the issues.

Now imagine Bernie in a debate with Trump:

Sanders: Mr. Trump, you say you are a deal maker, but you also say our politicians are bought and paid for, where we seem to agree on this second part, I want to know how you fix trade, how you secure the boarder, how you do anything you want to do when our system is corrupt. I have given my answer in a political revolution, what is yours?

Trump: Some form of obfuscation, or an attack on Bernie

Sanders: That is not an answer, or Mr. Trump, I thought you said you only attack people who attack you, you look like a bully, who has no answer right now.

_____________________________________________________________________________

My point here, is that Clinton's status quo politics playbook, will get destroyed by Trump. It plays right into his hands.

Bernie's issue's based campaigning, and focus on issues over attacks, is something Trump has not had to deal with yet.

If Trump says over and over, that it will be awesome as an answer, and Bernie is out there running on a platform, and not attacks, this seems to me to be Trump's Kryptonite. Teflon Don, might finally find himself in a sticky situation.

When I look at the GOP primary turnouts, I wonder if anybody can beat Trump.

Of course not; Hillary has a snowflake's chance, Bernie a little better, but they both get gored by Trump.

Indeed, I hope Democrats aren't taking Trump lightly.

Apparently the RNC smear machine has really hurt Clinton according to her own narrative, while Trump is apparently impervious to it.

In a more normal kind of election like '08, I would be more confident anticipating a popular trend like that one. Like when Obama got past Hillary, it was easy to predict from very early on that he was going to beat McCain. This year I'm not confident at all. Democrat turnout is solid but republicans might go way off the charts. With just a little more young participation, Sanders would beat Hillary, so imagining a Sanders victory is not far off from my expectations. If I adjust my reality that little bit and imagine Sanders out in front, I am still left with the same worry about Trump turnout, and that's before factoring in the socialist liability (Sanders may not pick up as many of the Hillary voters as Trump will pick up from his opponents).

I could argue that his being a Jew, is preventing him from being attacked for not deep throat'ing Israel to the base of the shaft, as being a selling point.

CNN Headline: "Is America Ready for a Jewish President?"

That's all it would take.

I worry about Trump, but I can't figure out why he isn't being hit on his weakest point, of the fact that he has no job experience in politics.

I wouldn't hire an inexperienced plumber, even if they had an engineering degree.

You want an inexperienced president, with your future in his hands?

I don't even think this point is really that important, but I think the optics of this for a low info voter, is unimaginably damaging. It is a basic piece of logic, that is very difficult for Trump to dispute.

Yes, I agree with Speaks point. Today's polling info shows Sanders as stronger than Clinton in a GE.

Your rebuttal was that Clinton does well with Dems according to polls.

My response is questioning how she is doing with Independents, because the answer is not well, and they are the majority today.

I don't know why people think Trump does better with independents -

LOL, Bernie has been branded as his number 1 identifying trait being a socialist.

I love this idea that their is some hit piece to come that is more damaging than this. I think it is absurd.

I am speaking more in a match-up with Clinton. What are her numbers with Independents?

Because last I saw she had negative favor-ability numbers in the 60th percentile. This is almost unheard of for a serious candidate.

Bernie kills it with Independents. It is one of his best performing categories.

Except nobody in their right mind would vote for Sanders.

You would think that would be a weakness, but his business leader rhetoric has been solid. He faced this question indirectly a number of times, starting with the bankruptcy questions last fall. His answer was that he took advantage of politicians because that's what corporations do, using bankruptcy laws and campaign contributions to get ahead. "I talk to everyone, even Democrats. I'll talk to Putin too." That answer covered so many of his weaknesses and was a big reason the Trump Train got out in front.

Also this is identity politics, and I believe the number one message people should be taking from this election, is that Identity politics is dying right now.

Trump and Bernie probably deserve some credit for killing this beast, more so Trump by exposing it.

trump is a freight train, get ready to get plowed democrats (you probably like it that way anyhow).

He's gonna steam roll right over clinton in the debates. She's as charismatic as stale bread.
