2007 was a great year for westerns

How would you rank these three movies?

For me it's tough as they are all so good.

    1. There Will Be Blood - PTA + DDL put this at the top for now. Great cinematography (a few soft shots here and there, might be intentional) and pitch perfect dialogue/performances all around. Excellent world building as usual by PTA. 8.8/10

    2. No Country For Old Men - this could be at the top, but on repeat viewing, some of Chigurgh's "friendo" dialogue seems a little out of place - he should have said even less than he did. I do actually think the cinematography in this technically a little better than There Will Be Blood. But There Will Be Blood had a more interesting setting/production design. 8.5/10

    3. Assassination of Jesse James - Love the vibe and atmosphere of this one. It's the most "art house" feeling of the three with the languid pace and melancholy soundtrack. Great performances from Affleck, Rockwell and Pitt. Great cinematography from Deakins (who also shot No Country). Only complaint, for the run time, could have used a little more scope/locations as the world feels a bit small and underpopulated. It has a bigger budget than There Will Be Blood but TWBB feels like a much bigger movie. 8.2/10

The Infamously Boring assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is a movie I can never watch again. It took me like 2 days to watching it the first time.

No Country for Old Men is amazing and one of my favorites.

There will be Blood but very little of it.

Assassination can fuck off. Painfully dull and the worst modern acclaimed western movie.

    The other two are superb.

All great movies watch them every year. Can’t really rank them but Jesse James on bottom looks right to me. I probably could have worded that better.
