It was recently announced that Ben Askren vs Jordan Burroughs in a wrestling match will happen on May 6th. Some sources say it is at 79kg, while some say 74kg. What weight class are they really wrestling at? 74kg is 163 lbs and it looks like Askren has more time to cut for the masvidal fight than the burroughs one. And the burroughs one is in a few weeks.

Yea that would have been a competitive fight in Askrens wrestling prime. I love Askren but I don't see it going well. On a side note Jordan doesn't seem to adhere to USADA standards if you know what I mean. Askren gonna get ragdolled, and it's sad to say.

Same -- I hate freestyle rules, though admittedly the freestyle rules have gotten slightly better since the recent rule changes.

It's freestyle at 79kg. Some places, such as MMAfighting, are reporting it as 74kg but that's incorrect. The funky one stated it's 79kg and that makes it far easier for both guys. Since there's no 79kg in the Olympics, Borroughs wrestles as 74 so most sites probably assumed it was 74.

that makes the most sense anyways, I can't imagine Ben wants to cut to 74kg -8 lbs below the UFC weight limit- so close to the fight. Especially since he has talked about the difficulty of cutting below 165lbs.

Askren's style almost will allow him to get ragdolled to some extent. I'm sure Burroughs will win, it just won't look like your typical match.

What a ridiculous match. A 50 year old Burroughs would still run through him

I'm curious what your reasons are for thinking that.

Thing is though, Burroughs doesn't rag doll people. He scores on leg attacks and go behinds. I don't think I've ever seen him go upper body. This bodes well for Ben. I do think Jordan is a big favorite but its not like Ben is out of shape. And he was actually training for midlands when he wound up signing with the UFC so he's not far removed from really high level wrestling training.
