As big as Stefan Struve is, why does he look so awkward when he fights?

You'll think he'll use his reach and size to keep his opponents at bay but struggles a lot.

Uncoordinated D level bum, he wouldn't even make it as a water boy in the NBA

He's really just not that great of a fighter. He doesn't utilize his strengths, and tends to have poor fight IQ.

But he did KO the current champ a ways back, so kudos to him.

I honestly think his heart disease still affects him.
He doesn't look the healthiest giant in the world.

Imagine being 8ft 9 and not utilising a decent jab.

Both him and his team are an absolute joke.

If he wasn't awkward he'd be in the NBA

Because he is so big.

if Miocic beats DC he should avenge Struve loss imo

A guy with 17 submission wins forcing himself to stand and bang with no striking talent whatsoever. That's Struve in nutshell.

hes like that daddy long legs that keeps flying into my window

He is too tall and lanky to be well coordinated. He is not Lebrone James who is huge and moves like a 6" guy.

The problem is though he's not THAT good a submission fighter either, doesn't really have any sub wins over quality fighters and has often taken a beating on the ground.

In terms of speed as well as technique he's clearly not on Semmy's level for me, indeed I think Schilt was much closer to Struve level grappling wise, probably superior defensively.

Bigger guys typically aren't as coordinated as smaller guys. And the big guys that are coordinated typically are making tens of millions in ball sports.

Being 6'11 280 or so pounds is good enough to get you paid for something. Even if it's just as cannon fodder for heavy hitters.

Semmy is probably ashamed of Struve for giving really tall fighters a bad name. My friend once said that big country KO'ing him looked like a lawn gnome knocking out a statue.

So you want Struve to get a TS just cause?

he should study how Tyson Fury uses his height to fight. man creates so much awkward angles and headaches.

I still think he should have concentrated more on grappling than striking in his career. With proper training, he could have been utilizing his long limbs on the ground rather than making fool out of himself with his subpar Semmy Schilt impression. Kind of a wasted opportunity, but on the other hand who could have ever known that he'd never learn to utilize his reach.

He's not a wrestler, though. He's not really forcing himself to stand. The better wrestler dictates where the fight goes. He's usually not the better wrestler.

I think your question is pregnant with its own answer.

Yeah, it did seem like he was progressing as a fighter, probably peaking when he kayoed Stipe. But he's had a lot of bad luck and never really progressed and probably regressed. It's a shame. He seems like a good guy.
