Not exactly. HBO is offering more $ for that fight. The catch? Loma returns to HBO for that one if it's to be done on May 12th. Otherwise, another date will need to be agreed upon which could happen on either ESPN or HBO. Oscar & HBO clearly want control here but Nelson isn't preventing this match-up from happening.

I don't believe Arum or De La Hoya at all.

The truth is somewhere between those two fat piles of shit.

Arum is not going back to hbo. Loma is the a side, he doesn't need linares imo. Another opponent will fight lomachenko may 12th on ESPN. He is their biggest draw.

I know arum is a piece of crap but oscar is even worse. Lol

Wasn't Arum the guy that gave HBO the bird and said we'll show all the fights for free on ESPN? And now he wants something from HBO?

Did I miss something here?

I don't believe Arum will work with HBO by putting Loma on the May 12th card (which GB prez Gomez has said that they could co-promote with TR). Their split wasn't amicable. I'm sure that Gomez & Oscar are only saying that because they firmly believe that Arum won't take them up on their offer for Loma to fight on HBO on the same date.

The option I do believe they should choose is the second one, simply pick another date to stage Lomachenko-Linares. My point though was that Arum's claim is false. Nelson isn't blocking this fight. In fact, Loma has been HBO's FOTY for the last two years and they weren't happy when they lost the Top Rank stable of fighters because now they have even less to work with and direct competition from basic cable through TR's long term ESPN deal. Pac is technically still TR's biggest draw. Loma is their second biggest draw. As you said Linares isn't the A side. The financials and venue however have already been worked out. The date is the issue with the network also potentially an issue (shouldn't be considering GB's own ESPN deal). If Bob had it his way Loma fights the winner of Beltran-Moses (which will be Beltran). That clearly isn't what the fans want and Oscar has now applied some public pressure on TR to get the Lomachenko-Linares fight finished.

It's Arum being Arum. Not that any promoter (especially Oscar) is particular trustworthy, but everything points to this being Arum not wanting his fighter on HBO more than anything else.

At the end of the day I don't actually mind seeing Beltran/Lomachenko as opposed to Linares/Lomachenko. think Lomachenko beats both with little trouble, but Beltran's size and style makes for a slightly more interesting matchup in my view.

I agree!

I would be happy with Beltran because he fights so hard and his story is pretty damn cool. Trying to earn his citizenship by beating fighters he should lose to will surely be a movie in the future. I don't think he'll win but neither will Linares.

Linares is very talented and shows flashes of greatness but...

Yeah, I agree. I'm still very skeptical of Linares against good fighters (particularly good and rugged fighters). He has strung together some respectable wins at LW, but it's mostly mediocrities that he has been beating, and he hasn't exactly blown them all out. Offensively he has a very aesthetically pleasing style, but I think he is still flawed defensively and his durability remains a huge question mark.

It'll end up Loma vs Beltren and it'll kill HBO in the ratings either way. HBO/GBP can be smart about this, and just concede the Loma-Linares fight. Shape the GGG-Canelo replay they have planned AROUND it, instead of thinking Arum or ESPN are going to budge on May 12th.

ESPN wants that date, and they want it on their network. Arum has no say about that. Its during NBA playoffs and a great time slot. HBO doesn't have that NBA audience. They're tuning into ESPN 24/7, and that's what this date is aiming to capitalize on.

I totally forgot that Beltran is fighting tonight! Hope he pulls it off and stays in the hunt for a bigger fight.

Starts on ESPN in a few minutes.

lomachenko would embarass beltran
not interested in seein that

resechedule linares on a different day..
shpuld happen

Interesting situation. It's obvious that HBO will air the replay a week after GGG vs. Canelo. Arum has to assume that will happen. What's odd here is that GBP doesn't seem to want to put the fight on the same day. I wonder why that is?

They can obviously set it up so that Loma vs. Linares takes place before or after the replay airs on ESPN. Linares is a GBP fighter, so I don't see the issue.

That way, fans would get to see both the replay and the fight. Seems like a win/win for GBP.

beltran is fighting the always tough nihito arakawa from japan

Linares is not controlled by Arums so he wont "quit in the corner" like Rigo and Walters did.

Neither was Rigo. Arum and Rigo hate each other due to their history when he was with Top Rank. He's a Roc Nation/Caribe fighter. Bob is seen as a greedy old man and very cheap. Yet, he's finding enough money to pay these guys off to quit and they're just agreeing to it and taking whatever he's offering? Once the going got tough all of these guys quit and it's easy to see in Loma's last 4 fights. They wanted out. Martinez and Walters looked frightened. Their eyes and body language said it all.
