Art of War FC 17, April 30

The return event was a lot of fun, some really nice finishes. Amu vs Shimizu and Estanov vs Lianjie should be fun. I know I have seen Seung Woo Choi fight before but I can't recall his fights at the moment, I know he trains under Bae Yong Kwon though. Good to see Rocky back again.

I'm glad Art of War is back in business. They should join Rizin.

Art of War Fighting Championships Reshapes Mixed Martial Arts For Chinese Market

The next stage in the evolution of martial arts as a global sporting phenomenon will take place April 30th in Beijing China at Art of War FC 17. The event, which promises to combine the best aspects from the cultures of traditional Eastern Martial Arts and Western Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), will feature some of China’s best martial artists facing off against fighters from around the world.

Says AOW CEO and Chinese MMA pioneer Andy Pi, “Art of War Fighting Championships was the first Mixed Martial Arts event in Mainland China and is still the most prestigious. With our next event Art of War FC continues to lead the way in the development of Chinese MMA, a market we largely helped create.” Mr Pi who is considered the Godfather of Chinese MMA was the first to promote mixed martial arts in China and continues to see tremendous potential for the sport.

“MMA is the most exciting sport in the world but most of the big shows are promoted with US fans in mind. AOW is built from the ground up for more traditionally minded Chinese sports fans. By combining the energy and excitement of MMA with the ancient culture of honor and respect typical of traditional Asian Martial Arts, AOW brings the 21st century's fastest growing sport to the world’s largest sports fan market in a new and more powerful way,” he said.

glad to see liu lianjie again, and rocky lee, and amu vs. shimizu should be fun.

Do they stream their events?
I can't remember if they did the last one or not but I want to say they did. I know video was on the internet very quickly after the event.

Do they stream their events?

Events are streamed on LeTV but I don't think the stream is optimized for US, possibly blocked. We're working on establishing a US streaming service for future events, probably won't happen with AoW17 though. AoW18 is slated for July 30, will be a pretty card. Working on matchups now.

have you guys tried getting wu chengjie? i'm a big fan of his, and i'm curious what he's up to since i think he should be fighting on bigger stages and wonder what's holding him back.

How many events do you guys plan on doing a year? Do you plan on crowning champions and doing one night tournaments?

Too bad there is not a US stream. Last event was real entertaining with the PRIDE rules with elbows. Some nice finishes. Hope the videos are posted after the event again.

I believe he's under contract with M-1 Global.

The goal is to do 4-6 events a year. Champions will be crowned eventually. Not sure on one-night tournaments yet.

i see, i know he fought for them, but i think there are much better organizations out there for him so i was hoping he wasn't tied up there.

He's a Sanda champ, always entertaining and not afraid to trade. Who knows, maybe one day he'll fight in AoW :)

Why was Art of War on hiatus after all this time and why did they decide to comeback? What is their plan for MMA in China? You guys should sign Guan Wang.

Too many factors, can't really go into details but what matters is we're back :)

We were the first to bring MMA to China and we're still the most prestigious. There are a lot of smaller orgs that have popped up. Our market is still focused solely on China but we do plan on expanding our exposure.

Wang has been successful since moving on from AoW. Will have to consider bringing him back for a future card.
