Yes, we all know now who Art Jimmerson was by watching the original UFC event. My question is what was the point of the single boxing glove technique? My guess it it strategically would give Jimmerson an advantage for leverage in clinching & grappling, or to scramble back to his feet. But if that was the case, why not just fight bare handed?

To protect his jab hand from being broken, because he still needed to make a living as a boxer

He had a good career in boxing, and had a fight the next weekend. Didn't want to risk breaking his hand. His boxing career panned out better than 98% of the guys on the early UFC.

A boxing glove and a Gi are not weapon's but wrestling shoes are?

Because he wanted to keep his pimp hand free

He didn't have much of a strategy. He didn't know what to expect, I don't even think he knew who he was fighting till right before the fight.

Because it was filled with water and sand for instability.

He said something along the lines of having one hand free to protect against grappling and one hand gloved for punching.

In the aftermath of the original UFC tournament over 22 years ago, Jimmerson still remains a true pioneer.
