Anyone else using the arm trap from the back? I just started working on this, and while I love the idea, I am not having a ton of luck with it yet.

Trapping an arm from Back Control with my leg? I use it whenever I can. It makes chokes so much easier having to fight off only one arm against my two. BJ Penn is a huge proponent of this.

Yes, trapping an arm from back mount to then attack the RNC. How do you hit it mostly? Are you already on the back or is it during the transition to take the back?

I have decent success with it, but when going for the arm trap, set up is key, make the guy give you his arm, just trying to trap his arm with leg can result in them escaping rather easily if not done correctly.

I'll get it a lot when they sit up for a single by pushing their head to the outside and spinning around to their back. Also when I arm drag someone, if I can switch my hand from palm up on the tri to palm down on their wrist, I'll throw my bottom hook over it. That one is a little more risky and lower percentage.

I get it a ton when I have back mount. You control their fore arm with the hand that's under their armpit, then throw the same side leg up to their elbow, then let go of their forearm, twist your hand up and grab your own leg, then bring your other leg up and lock your feet over their stomach... Sorry if that's confusing

Any triangle options from there???

Haven't played with it much.

i use it all the time and have even developed a tight arm bar on the trapped arm by pulling it against my thigh and a crucifix setup from there ive developed. its a great position.

There are two quite different ways of trapping the arm, requiring you to fall to the choke/overhook side and the underhook side, respectively. If you fall to the choke/overhook side, you typically have to bait him to expose his top arm to being trapped as you threaten the second hook. This is mostly a way of clearing the arm to work the RNC. I personally fall to the underhook side a lot, adjusting to a more diagonal angle and digging with my heel under his forearm to trap the arm, which is easier to force. From here I usually go to the reverse triangle, or if he bridges into me to stop that, I take the RNC.
