Arm Bars and Genitalia

So, I went to my second ever Jiu Jitsu class the other day, and needless to say I practiced arm bars for the majority of the session. The thing is though, a lot of times I went to extend the arm I ended up crushing my balls, and today I have a bruised pelvis. Am I doing them wrong or is this a normal experience? I have compression shorts and can put a cup in there, but would that affect my training?

Do you THINK all of us crushing our balls in practice everyday is normal?
 
Squeeze your knees and thighs together very hard when you do it. Usually the arm won't even touch your groin when you do it that way.

If you make a mistake and don't squeeze enough, you can still finish it by putting the elbow to the side of your groin. But this way isn't optimal because it gives you less control of your opponent and makes it easier for him to escape.

Practice squeezing your knees and thighs together for the armbar.

I searted wearing a cup just for armbars. The leverage helps when you can't land a solid armbar.
 
Umm cup?

I mean are they that expensive? anyone who does a combat sport this should be the first thin they buy
 
No it's not normal.....if it was, every grappler would have Cauliflower nuts

Raise your hips more WHEN you're doing the steps for the armbar, make sure your hip's closer to the guy's shoulder, if you're doing it from the guard, make sure the leg behind the guy's shoulder is raised/deep in enough...there was one guy who thought the armbar was ineffective because it kept damaging his own balls...so yeahh ur not the only one
 
iv only been training 2 months but i have never hurt my balls, go buy a can
 
For some reason I have always like a lot of pressure on my balls as they are near a guy's face.

For some reason it feels right.
 
I normally feel the arm more on my johnson than on the balls... If i think about it, it may be that my nuts are parting ways down the middle and the arm is lying on top of my junk, creating a cushion for the boys...

or maybe my body structure is different. Idk

first off, cups are cheating. real men don't need cups.

secondly, you should armbar with the top of the inner thigh of the side you're pulling the arm to. if you've got their right arm, you should be pulling to your right,

and yes, absolutely squeeze your knees together. leverage.

cups are for retards that can't armbar good.
 
lots of people have already said it, squeeze your knees. the arm should be locked in place tight so you only have to pull just slightly to get the tap. another thing that helps is making sure your partner's thumb is pointed up towards the ceiling.
 
Maybe you are too far away, like when you are raising your hips/pulling the arm down you are bringing the elbow right into your package. I have done that a few times and it hurts. I hate wearing cups especially for armbars. I can do better without one.
 
If you're consistently crushing your nuts with an armbar, then you're doing it wrong. Your hips should be the fulcrum of the lock, not your inner groin.
