Stipe went on Ariel's show and asked Stipe if he feels disrespected by the promos (which is stupid it's just promotion and they wanted to build a nice adversary for Stipe, but Ariel planted the idea that there's a conspiracy), Stipe said this:
“Obviously, for sure [I feel disrespected]. Listen, I feel a little bit disrespected, but I’m not going to dwell on it.”
“He’s got more hype on him I guess. The guy hits super hard. We’re making a big thing about it. I’ve fought some good guys, you know? That’s how we are. I’m not much of a trash talker I just like to fight, that’s what I do.”

Then, BASED ON THIS, Dana was asked if he had issues with Stipe and he said this:
“Stipe is one of the nicest guys in the world.” White continued. “I like this guy. We’ve butted heads professionally as far as business goes in the last year and a half but other than that he’s a super nice guy. But I butt heads with everybody at some point professionally at one point or another. I don’t wish anybody to win or lose.”

Which later Ariel spun into this here (butting heads part at 1m50s), which set Stipe off:
But watch the way Ariel set it up and how selectively he quoted Dana.
That lead to this and the post-fight speech:
Basically, Stipe got fucking played. Promos are horseshit, the company's just shaking their ass for attention, doing their job, it has nothing to do with respect. If Stipe thought of all the Francis-heavy promos as disrespect, I think he's misguided. But I don't think he really viewed it that way until Ariel did his job. I'm not against Ariel, he's provided a ton of great content and won't hesitate to ask great questions, but he is a fake good guy. Everyone wants to hate Dana, so they'll roll with this, but it's just sad how a decent normal bloke like Stipe got involved in petty crap like this.
