Ariel Helwani a Ratings Disaster on ESPN

In all honesty, how many views was UFC Tonight actually getting?

Ariel Helwani is low key cringey af

I get why Ariel wanted to go to ESPN (basically a dream gig for a sports reporter), but I think he should've stayed with MMA Fighting. The MMA Hour has lost its audience and he's obviously not getting viewers on ESPN either. It feels like it's turned out to be a lose/lose situation.

I think part of the problem is that MMA Fighting is an internationally available website, whereas ESPN is essentially for North America only. I think he underestimated how large his international audience is.

ESPN gonna learn that nobody but people on the UG and sherdog give a fuck about MMA enough to follow its media coverage

And shit I havent visited an actual MMA news site in like 10 years, I just wait for a thread on here

And as much as we all like Ariel, hes not a particularly interesting personality or good interviewer aside from how comfortable he makes fighters. But people not previously invested with a fighter arent going to care about seeing him interviewed by some dude.

That Ariel and Chael show is fire though because Chael has a great personality. Maybe that'll blow up

good points. mma fighting was his home for so long, that it seems that it will take some more time for it to work.

I agree with a lot of this but I don't think we can really judge the move as a positive or a negative without giving him more time to either grow or bottom out and more importantly without seeing his contract

It's very possible ESPN is paying him more money to bomb for them than MMAfighting was for his successful web show

Also I think Helwani has always wanted to eventually move away from covering MMA and working at ESPN provides him more opportunities to pursue that. He's already doing E60 interviews and stuff and even though it was just some Fortnite kid it was a step towards where I think Ariel sees himself long term

is this about that awards show? if so no fuckin shit, hardcore fans dont even give a shit about that show no idea why the general public would. why they gave him 3 hours on espn for that garbage is beyond me

Sad but true. MMA has peaked. It's kinda like skateboarding and the x games. They have there niche audience's and it will never be as mainstream as football, Soccer, basketball etc.

The UFC on ESPN is going to be a disaster...too many talking heads that know nothing about mma, it will be worse then fox

he burned way too many bridges.
Serves him right.IMO

Always looking to create conflict thinking this is journalism. About time he learned it isn't.

I like Ariel, I always listened to the MMA hour, I listen to it with Luke, but less, regarding Ariel’s show now? Where the fuck is it, if I can’t easily play it with Alexa or my computer, it’s not happening..His info regarding transitioning sucked, unless I missed it..

Ariel needs to be with Luke Thomas, chuck the man in the hat meninhaal, and Danny seguro...
