aren't Money Fights, by definition, the fights that most fans are interested in seeing?

Why are people against money fights? if a fight sell it's because people are interested, money fight and fights against the best contenders aren't mutually exclusive

why do people act like money fights are against the fans self interest

This is the most respected fighting organization on Earth, not a WWE circus. Maybe that's why they shouldn't do it (often).

This is fight promotion son you put on a fight that can sell

yiu know what yeah man

Because it's a money fight for Woodley, not a huge fight for the fans. GSP's comeback vs anyone would do well because of him. Nick's comeback would do well, again, because of him. Woodley doesn't have the personality type to contribute to those fights being bigger. He gets a bigger paycheck because of the fans of those 2 fighters. So it's better to give it to Thompson for a legit #1 vs champ fight.

money fights = fights hardcore fans will reluctantly watch that wil also grab attention of casual fans.

not be confused with most good fights which casual fans will not care to watch.

As the sport grows the hardcore fans get fucked because match making is at the whim of casual fans.

Woodley going after the "money fight" isn't actually a money fight. The money fight is Diaz vs Lawler. What Woodley is talking about is the "most money he can make in a fight", fight.

Dana needs to come back to him and be like "Yeah, we are all about Money fights. Giving you Diaz ain't the money fight. People would pay the most to watch you fight Wonderboy, the top contender. ....ya goof. "

not necessarily. it just means that there is a bankable fan base that will always show up for certain fighters. Nick Diaz could go 0-10 in the UFC, but they would keep gifting him title shots because there is a block of fans that love all that 209 wut shit. Meanwhile, the rest of the MMA world is left scratching its head.

same thing with Bisping/Hendo. The UFC knows they can put that on in London and a huge British contingency will show up to watch Bisping try to avenge his loss. Meanwhile, the rest of the fans are waiting for a legitimate fight

now that's right, I be hard pressed to call any fight Tyron is involved in a MONEY FIGHT

"Money fights" is being used in place of "easy opponent who's more popular than me".

The term has lost all meaning and has easily become the dumbest phrase being thrown around these days. Calling it a money fight doesn't make it so.

It is prize fighting, you make the money while the money is there. Yeah there needs to be a certain amount of meritocracy but if a fighter has an established name and is a former champ or even a popular several time challenger, that is merit enough. Guys like Wonderboy will get their opportunity but this is a business not the Olympics or some other amateur tourney.

It's kinda nutty. Fedor vs Silva, that's a money fight. Mayweather vs Pacquiao, that was a money fight.

Tyrone Woodley will have to go on an historic, 8-fight KO streak just to be popular, let alone part of a "money fight".

He might as well just say "I want a really easy fight, but with someone more popular than me so I can benefit from their success."

What if Lawler refused Woodley as Woodley was not a money fight?

Anyway, they have to do their title obligations. If they want to fight extra additional fight for money thats fine, but not until they have done their obligations as champions.

UFC title value has been devalued so much its not effing funny.

This. It's a sport where very few people actually make a decent amount of money. If you're good enough to reach the top you have earned the right to make yourself a decent payday or 2. Only a fool would turn down the opportunity to make a mint just to please a few cry baby "fans".

I have no problem with money fights, but in this case, it's not because Woodley is popular, it is only because he is the champ.
Make your money while you can, sure, but if he fights GSP, it's because GSP is popular, not because they are both popular.

Hard to complain about Woodley while Bisping is fighting Hendo, that's one of the worst ever, MWs never been more stacked!

Only repressed millennial virgin cheeto dust sniffers living in their mom's basement streaming every fight and keyboard warrioring it up on the daily don't want to see "money fights" Guess what nerds, life isn't fair! Money always wins.

Great fight and you will watch, hand in pants, hoping Hendo gets a 2nd miracle. Ain't going to happen buddeh, The King gets his revenge.
