Are you handy?

Straight out of the packaging, the marshmallow floater was high up the chain, so I guess while tank was filling back up, chain had a lot of slack so no resistance to flap shutting. The old flapper removed didn't have a floater marshmallow and gave ample flush from one quick twitch flush. The old flapper was like flesh colored rubber that hardened and got a warped edge causing the leak. I would sometimes drop a toilet slow release tablet in the tank and noticed at the store, some flappers stated something like won't be damaged by chlorine.

If the old flapper didn't have the floater marshmellow I wouldn't use a flapper that does have one as a replacement. I'd try to find the same style/fit. Check out this guy talk about pretty much every flapper available :)

Toilet now uses sufficient water to flush via one fast twitch flush. Just pushed the marshmallow floater down a few inches more so it's pretty low.

lol im an electrician as well.

i started as a construction guy then went to trade school to become sparky and now i run wire on construction site, shit sucks(money is good if you are experienced guy)

i try to get to maintenance jobs or go to school to become some office drone because this construction thing is coming out of my ears

So funny enough I decided late last year I was sick of my company and the union and applied for electrician maintenance position. Company has over 50 properties and plenty of capital so theres no penny pinching or shortage of work. Super chill, my boss is about to retire and have me take over, we just contract out the really big stuff unless we want to do it.
Get a maintence gig. I’m an electrician too and I heard that from so many old guys, I went and did it.

I worked maintence at a previous mill which subbed everything out while we played on our phones. It’s perfect for an old guy but it’s also why I took my current job.

Where I’m at now, I was hired on as the lead hand electrician. The maintence foreman quit and I got the promotion. It’s the perfect combo for me. I like coordinating everything, I like spending time working with the boys and expanding my mechanical knowledge. It’s also good because I get to be on the floor too without doing anything too hard on me.

I get to keep busy without busting my ass basically and it’s perfect. There’s chainfalls and forklifts anyways.

There’s also teaching at a trade school when you’re old. It would be much easier than being in the trade with better hours and a chance to mentor young guys.

Well I took this advice and got a badass maintenance position. Better hours, chill atmosphere, plenty of work. Definitely recommend getting into this side of things after a few years in field.

I'm handy with rosy palm and her five sisters...

Maintenance is what you wanna do. Especially if union. I get paid to do nothing but wait til my pension kicks in.

“I’m not the kind of guy to say atodaso but f***in’ atodaso” - Ricky, trailer park boys

I’ve been told through my whole apprenticeship how maintenance was the best and I agree. I’m not a fan of middle management but things are still going well and assuming Canadian oil never picks up again, I’ll likely be a lifer here.

Good luck with your new position. Hope all is well

Since buying a house I will try to do most things on my own. Replaced my garbage disposal on my own. Figured out why my furnace would light for 10 seconds then turn off. Apparently the flame sensor was dirty. So I cleaned it off and it works.

I always feel bad figuring out how easy some shit is to do and people pay others 100 bucks to come figure it out and do it in 15 minutes.

Other things I’ll call someone for though. My fridge had a leak and water wasn’t going through and the ice machine didn’t work. So fuck trying to figure all that out.

True story that happened last Monday:

I work maintenance and we got an electrical company doing major work on upgrading data lines while the casino is empty. We're always in the shop sleeping or playing around on our phones and these guys from the company would come in and ask for parts they don't have on-hand and we give it to them. Most of them are pretty cool.

One of them, a black guy, is so fucking pissed every time he comes in because he sees us getting paid for doing nothing. He's always making snide remarks, but we let it slide. We are paying this company out of our department's budget, so we get the final say in everything. What we say fucking goes.

On Monday, he went into our shop fucking pissed and have had enough, he threw some part on the table said along the lines of, " now you guys got shit to do." They broke something and they want us to fix it. He may have done it on purpose. This fucker is just a laborer. He's not a skilled tradesman. He's just there to take out the garbage when the gondola is full and random laborer shit. We called the foreman and told him about it and he fucking fired him on the spot.

About the only thing I am not super confident with is electrical. I can replace electrical fixtures, lights etc. But wiring stuff I'm not that confident in my ability not to zap the shit out of myself.

I can do some plumbing, haven't done much.

I can do most carpentry related things though with a good degree of success.

I've built some furniture for my house with good success. Also can do some blacksmithing and knife forging.

Two months after replacing toilet flapper, and no problems, suddenly toilet tank is leaking small amounts of water into the bowl. Can't figure out what's wrong. Put my hand in the tank and pressed all around the flapper to make sure it was shut tight and still water trickling into bowl evidenced by small ripples. Could have swore yesterday after fiddling with the flapper position, it stopped trickling water for few hours or so.

Do I need to replace the flapper again? Do these things go bad fast without using the toilet tank bleach tablets?

Wondering if I need to replace the toilet tank hole rim piece or if that's even replaceable without dismantling the tank from the bowl. Or can I just put some sort of o-ring somewhere.

EDIT: Flapper looked normal but didn't last a few months before it started leaking. This was bought from hardware store, not flea market where merchandise is exposed to extreme heat from sunlight.
