Are you allowed to punch someone in the back in UFC?

Are you? I don’t believe you’re allowed to hit anyone in the spine. Don’t see that many back shots in UFC..

Hard to punch someone's back when they are facing you face to face and even if you do take their back on the ground, I'm pretty sure hits to the head end the fight faster. Anyways it's not even allowed so why bother man.

No you can't
I remember Baroni was whaling on Evan Tanners kidneys at UFC 48. I’d consider that the back.

Sounds like you can hit the back, just not the spine.

EDIT: It was Baroni-Matt Lindland at UFC 41.

Specifically that - you are not allowed to attack the spine (not "the back"). You could, in theory, aim strikes at the should blades. But why you would want to do that, I can't fathom.

Jesus Christ have you ever even watched a fight?

If they are in the seat ahead of you and constantly boo or do that goofy chant then yes, yes you can.

From wikipedia

Not the spine. Refs explain it as if someone was wearing headphones. Nothing behind the headphones and imagine a skunk stripe down the back. All off limits. You could strike liver or kidneys in the back, just no spine shots. Nothing to the back of the head.

Chicken boned people are fried up and consumed by Dana White and crew b4 they can be exposed

I dont think you can attack the kidneys anymore.

Swearing and cursing in the cage is ahead of spiking an opponent on their head. Cool.

Ineffective a lot of the time and you can't land strikes to the spine, as ppl ITT have described.

Thpinal.
