True true. It's certainly not a law of the universe, but don't you think it became necessary in that environment? People started to sit still. Went from wide ranging choices of food across the year, to just one or two staples. Resources did become more limited in many respects just for the fact that people were staying in one place. Resource requirements changed too i.e settlement building. Trade and barter became prominent. In this new era, one of the changes made was implentation of rankings. You could argue it was necessary, maybe?
I guess he could have worded it more water-tight... or maybe he does believe that mainstream/competition-is- king horseshit. But the most recent part of humanity's journey through time cannot be ignored. (Even if it is like the blink of an eye compare to how old we are.)
