When this Leon fight was announced, I initially thought Nate's getting son'd. But on a second thought... Leon went to a 5 round decision with a sick, stuffy nosed Cowboy. 5 round decision with RDA. Split decision with Gunnar. All good fighters, but none of those were impressive performances.

Sure he's big, but he's kind of a basic, point fighting decision machine who just trolls an elbow every now and then.

Am I nuts for thinking Nate might actually pull this off?

Nate has never really looked good against full sized 170 pounders and Edwards has a massive speed advantage so I’d say it’s extremely unlikely Nate will be able to do anything.

This. I would be shocked if Nate won a 2 minute portion of the fight, let alone a round.

Pretty much this. Nate is estimated correctly for this one.

Hespect to Nate though. He could've picked Masvidal for more money than fighting Leon in a contenders bout.

Nate will lose badly, as he would lose badly to any top 10 WW. Masvidal is actually one of the best matchups for him which says a lot. The fight is mindnumbingly stupid.

If by killed, you mean a 50-45/30-27 UD loss with a lot of takedowns... then yes, Leon will “kill” Nate.

    it’s a mismatch

I think he is too small. He is not a real 170 lbs. But, you never know. He has a chance, and I would defenitely like the upset.

The RDA fight was impressive. Cowboy performance wasn't as Cowboy prolly won the last 2 and Leon faded. Gunnar being a split is a dumb criticism if you've actually seen the fight. Gunnar got outclassed badly and dropped from an elbow

Leon over Nate might be the biggest lock for main or comain all year

Leon is big and strong and also fast.

    Physically Nate is just outmatched.

Nate's a career LW. 1-2 at WW without the Conor fights. Rory Markham being his only win over a WW.

And this was younger, close to prime Nate. 36 now. And been on a inactive schedule for the last 8 years. Last fight 1,5 years ago dominant loss to Gamebred at WW.

While Leon's on a 9-fight unbeaten streak as a career WW. Top ranked, looks in prime form.

If anything, this is horrendous matchmaking. Just based on money. I hope it's a good scrap, but chances are Nate gets dominated. And after the fight we'll ask why this was sanctioned.

Nate's record @ WW discounting the Conor fights is 3-3. Wins over Pettis, Markham, Marcus. Losses to Dong, Rory and Jorge. He arguably beat Dong too it was very close.

Yeah, but Pettis and Davis are career LW's (smaller guys). You can look at Markham, Rory or Kim for his chances vs Leon. I'd say Rory Mac is closest to Leon in size, skill level and style.

At least takes on all comers no matter how hard they may be. Unlike McGregor and Covington wanting the easy path to a title. Covington should have to fight Masvidal or Burns or Thompson etc. before he gets another title shot. McGregor should not be fighting Poirier for a title.

Nate looked and moved like an older man against masvidal. Couple that with yet another long layoff, it’s probably not likely he will win.

No. Nate is heavily outmatched in this one and has never looked good against bigger 170er even in his supposed prime.
Also no way he is gonna out cardio Edwards.
This is just a hard lock for Edwards.

Edwards is a -440 favorite. Just to illustrate how much faith the oddsmakers have in Nate.
