Are we getting to an Era where its almost impossible to take someone down?

Are we getting in an era where wrestling will be removed from college sports and the olympics because nobody can score takedowns any more?

Of course not, wrestling will die for different reasons.

Obvious white belt thread is........

...blue belt thread?!

Not yet, but it will happen. MMA wrestling is well established as something you absolutely need to plan around, and the youngest of this generation of fighters is likely getting the arts of using and defending it hammered into them.

If you even have to ask this, I can tell you're very new to MMA.

Two weeks ago the rules favored wrestelrs and it should be banned. How time flies.

Where strikers are getting really good at stuffing the takedowns and most fights being on the feet?

There were several examples just this past weekend where strikers were taken down and beat. Like Colton Smith beating Ricci and Khalibov suplexing Pichel. The goal of MMA is to exploit the weaknesses of the guy you are fighting. If your opponent isn't a good grappler, you should try to take him down.

too bad there is a whole lot more honor in wrestling than there ever will be in mma

There are a lot of wrestlers who specifically train striking and strikers specifically training defensive wrestling. That's what we are seeing.

If any art is slowly being canceled out it's the art of submissions but since the UFC puts on so many unevenly matched prelims we still always see a bunch of them too.

You guys can honorably stick carrots in each other's asses and snap each other with towels in the locker room and whatever else qualifies as "funny hazing" while the rest train all of MMA.

No, but we definitely are seeing an era where fighters recognize the importance of TDD and getting back up after being taken down.

Remember when LNP was gonna take over and kill the sport like 1 year ago?

Yeah, it's crazy how a year ago everyone was complaining about LnP and how wrestlers had an unstoppable gameplan since a takedown meant the decision went to the wrestler. Now most bad fights that people complain about are of the Tap n Lap variety.

What on earth are you talking about?

There are always gonna be guys that are difficult to take down.. Cro Cop.. Chuck..

People have their own style. There are no eras of takedown.

Some fighters have great takedown defense, but once in the position, are relatively easy to hold down (Melvin).

ur gonna get flamed but whatever...I can see why you wrote this

some guys like JDS, aldo, GSP, usually machida, probably jones, and others usually beat the shit outta people standing because they force them to fight with them on the feet...

obviously there are still plenty of guys out there who get taken down against their will and it will probably be that way forever...but the strikers that claim the top spots in their respective food chains are the ones who discourage their enemies with their amazing TDD

seriously...anyone who has grappled for real knows that continuously shooting for takedowns against a guy with great TDD very disheartening...especially for someone with shitty cardio like myself

What the hell does this mean.

Wrestling is one of the oldest sports still going and is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Have you even watched any recent events?

I can see TS's point. But no, not everyone's wrestling is on the same level and if there's a significant gap, guys get taken down.
