Frequently Asked Question:

NHB7, why don't you rather than put five people asking yes or no, put 10 people and just say vote for the on you think is a legend?

Answer: Because of the way Sherdog polls work. Let me provide those interested with an example. Imagine I had a poll and all it asked was Do you think either of these fighters are legends? And I listed two people. One person was Gina Carano and the other person was Matt Mitrione. Now If I just listed there names and said, "Vote for them if you think they are legends and just don't vote if you don't think they are legends" here is what might happen. 100 people might enter the thread and of those 100 people 6 people vote because 6 people believe that both Carano and Mitrione are legends. But the poll doesn't count those people who came in and said, "No, they aren't legends, so I won't vote." So what ends up happening is the final conclusion of the poll is "Out of 6 votes, 6 people agree that Gina and Matt are legends. In other words, 100% of people believe Matt and Gina are legends." When in reality, only 6% of people believe that they are legends. So the only way to get to that number is to provide those people that believe they are not a legend to also have a vote. In other words, 6 people vote they are, and 94 people vote that they are not.

Sadly it is "No" all the way down for me on this one.

I'd definitely think of Hunt as a combat sports legend. Who else can claim to have fought competitively for the UFC interim championship and seem to have legitimately improved their skills more than a decade after winning the K1 Grand Prix? That said, I picked no since his mma career started a bit late.

The rest? Not so much.

Yes for Hunt, no for the rest. Back to back wins over prime Wand and Cro Cop, massive losing streak, putting it back together to come back and fight for a UFC belt... Who has done something even remotely similar?

Hunt is a legend, especially if you take into account his kickboxing accomplishments. The poll doesn't specify "MMA fighters who are legends", it just says "fighters who are legends" ;)

No to all but all are superstars with interesting stories.

Legends are few and far between.

Hassy alone makes Hunt a legend

No to the rest of them

I don't know much about Kerr or Smith, but I voted no for the others. If I had to give one the legend status, easily Hunt.

Hunts definetly a legend, Kerr come have been a legend but drugs consumed him, Maurice smith is definetly a legend - also another guy who was one of the first to cross train and also one of the first to install takedown defense in his game to keep the fight standing so he could implement his kickboxing game. Love all the posters comments on who's a legend who have join dates from 2010, 2011, etc. outside of NHB(2002 join date) I have a feeling most of you don't have a clue who most of the people in these polls are! Yet you all reply like you do, lol, unfucking real!

Hunt yes and Diaz yes... Anyone who's says either of these men are not mma legends "don't know nothin bout nothin". Anderson and gsp are more than legendary... But just because your not the best ever dosnt mean your not a legend in your own right.

Hard group. Hunt is a legend if you look at his achievement across all combat sports.

Kerr doesn't have the career to be a legend but his signicance in the sport as one of the first wrestlers to dominate, his ADCC achievements, and his really tragic (and well documented) fall from grace make him extremely memorable and compelling.

Maurice Smith I think of as a legend because even though his career wasn't that long he was really the first guy to prove that strikers could win consistently in high level MMA; people forget how grappling centric MMA was at first. I recall an interview with Mark Coleman where he basically said no striker could beat him because he could shoot from farther away than they could strike and that was the prevailing view at the time, no one really questioned that Mark Coleman would beat any striker based only on wrestling. Mo Smith changed all that.

Matt Serra is a cool dude, but he's a footnote at best in MMA history.

Nick Diaz is not a legend. Not even close. If people remember you for your shit talking and drug use more than your fighting you're not close to legendary status.

trying to get at least 100 votes on each poll
