Are there any alternative ways to escape the full mount?

Is the only way to escape the full mount to explode with your hips and give your back?
So many fights end with full mount --> explode with hips to escape --> give back --> rear naked choke submission.

One escape that i saw was this, but it requires flexibility and might not be practical (and you need to be very flexible).

Can the person on bottom go for strikes to the body or even try to strike the opponent's arm or elbow as they are punching? What if the opponent on top is too strong and you don't have enough strength to explode with your hips? Is it game over?

  2. You missed the Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter fight?

WTF? those punches from mount did like no damage. Either he was already gassed from just taking Anderson down or he is just a terrible puncher.

All Anderson was doing to "defend" was raise his hands up. Or am I underestimating that "defense"?

  4. ^^^TS asked if the only way to escape the full mount is to explode with your hips and give up your back. Start watching at 5 minutes and 10 seconds into the video and Andy will show you the answer to that ridiculous question.

It's the first sentence of his post.

a proper hip escape shouldn't give up your back. you are turning over too much if you are really doing that

You can Google trap and roll, elbow escape for starters

Punching from the bottom is pointless from guard you can do damage with elbows but punching from bottom of Mount is foolish to put it nicely

I lock one of their ankles with one of my legs, control the arm on the same side of their body, then I hip to shoulder very powerfully to try and roll them on the side that they have no base (because I'm controlling their leg and arm). If you fail, you haven't really lost anything except some energy from trying it.

Lutter missed weight by a lot and drained himself dry and even tried shaving his head to make weight. He was spent before he went out there and still almost beat AS.

Winning a round against Anderson doesn't mean "almost beat". He's lost plenty of rounds against guys and then ends up winning anyways. "Almost beat" is a bit of an exaggeration

Full mount from a JJ ace like Lutter is usually "almost beat" unless you are the second worlds worst at cutting weight.

Stick your knee up his butt and your elbow down his crotch.

    Start bouncing him.

    Transition to 1lx.

I've got a great mount escape that I really should film someday. You can take the persons back off it.

  19. My favorite is where you hip escape... Or shrimp out a little, getting in my right hip. Use my left foot to trap their outside foot (on my right side)... Then I drag their foot towards my left and turn it to half guard then hip escape again to retain full guard.
